A neonatal ward manager at Lucy Letby’s hospital outlined 15 reasons why the nurse could not be to blame for the deaths and collapse of babies, it has emerged. Documents released for the Thirlwall Inquiry, which is examining how incidents at the Countess of Chester could have been prevented, show that Eirian Powell, Letby’s boss, was unconvinced by allegations against the nurse. There was no evidence that Lucy actually harmed any babies - They were premature and very sick - To say she murdered them is wrong - Why have you altered her face - To make her look more uncaring ?

The babies Lucy was supposed to have murdered had post mortems and were found to have died from natural causes. If there had been any suspicion of foul play the Coroner would have been informed and the bodies re-examined by a forensic pathologist. It was only when the Consultants were forced to apologise to Lucy for bullying her that they decided to go to the police Cheshire Constabulary were led by the nose by Brearey and Jayaram and a case was built round Lucy. who was innocent of any wrong doing. The quality of evidence in Lucy Letby trial was particularly poor and unconvincing. The prosecution simply figuratively battered the court over the head with the sheer weight of often completely worthless evidence for 8 months with little opposition, including no defence witnesses until Lucy was broken in the witness box, and the jury had been beaten into submission.
