I really like Ethiojazz, Mulatu Astatke and the Black Jesus experience who I've seen many times. I've seen Mulatu Astatke once. One time I got in a taxi with an Ethiopian taxi driver and I asked him about Ethiojazz and Mulatu but he'd never heard of it or Mulatu - Ethiopia's most famous musician. 🤔

when i went to uni me and my friends were really heavy into him. to be perfectly honest i wasnt aware he was still alive - in my mind he simply had that legendary status, we just had old vinyls of his music with the amazing cover art of years long gone. one day my friend told me he was playing in a pub near to where we lived (london, 2017). i couldnt quite believe it! of course we went and honestly - they say never meet your heroes - it was incredible. in that little room i was absolutely ecstatic, smiling cheek to cheek and in awe the entire time. the music and performance was incredible. after the show was over and the clapping and cheering had subsided we turned around to leave and i ran into this small man i was not aware of behind me by accident. i said something like 'i'm so sorry' and he replied 'no i am' and i realised it was mulatu! i got the chance to thank him for what he has given to us and for that i am so grateful. he was incredibly humble and appreciative. this is a night i will never ever forget

Thanks a lot for making and sharing this video, Colin. What a beautiful performance. I'd love to see Grace and her band perform one day. There's something about the music that speaks to me on a high level.

Raw, warm, beautiful like a rough wool pancho woven by hand to be worn on a cool moonless night with the stars of the universe sprayed up upon the sky between tall mesas on our lonely, little blue planet.

Does anyone know if any of Mulatu's music has been arranged for a full jazz-band? I'm trying to get my backwoods community band to branch a little :P

So beautiful! Reminds me of a time when we listened to Joan Baez and other poet singers that caused us to seriously think deep inside ourselves about what we believed and felt. However, she does it with such a powerful expressive voice! Amazing!
