His best acting role was the Dad on The Waltons. Before The Waltons, he played Jack Nicholson's older brother on Five Easy Pieces oddly. He was also a slave trader on the series Roots.

I am wondering if Helen had something to do with the show The Waltons? I should probably check the cast list but it didn't seem like a name I remembered from the show . How did he know her?

I love how he was such a great actor, that I. his role as"Daddy", he never judge any situation, was ALWAYS open mineded to listen to anyones problems, what a precious gift that would be for SOOOO many thousands of kids in this day and time!!!! Oh how many countless one parent families there would at this time. The FACT being, you have parents that stick to morals, responsibility if birth the child, you RAISE your child own your own, NOT THE TAXPAYERS, THAT GO TO WORK EVEN WHEN THEY ARE SICK, FOR IT IS CALLED, WORK TO SUPPORT MY FAMIALY, NOT THE GOVERMENT, WHILE YOU LAY OR SIT WHILE ANOTHER SO " CALLED MAN" GETS HIS "KICKS" OFF ON YOU,. FOR YOU ARE TOO LAZY TO WORK AND BE RESPONSIBLE AND HOLD THAT "SO CALLED SPERM DONOR" ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS RESPONSIBILITIES, OH, I MUST HAVE LOST MY MIND!!!, FOR IF YOU EVEN THOUGHT OF HOLDING RESPONSABLE, THAT IT IS THE CRUEAL REALITY, THAT YOU COULD NOT GET YOUR WEEKLY $100, MANICURES AND PEDUCURES ON MY "HARD EARNED $, ENJOY WHILE YOU CAN, FOR THIS TO "WILL END", THE REALITY BEING, YOU WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERY NEED YOUR CHILD NEEDS, SIMPLY PUT, YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK, NO MATTER HOW YOU HATE IT!!!! I AM BEYOND TIRED OF SUPPORTING YOU "DEAD BEATS AND EMBELEZARS OF MY HARD EARNED PAY CHECK, AND TAKING MORE THAN 80 PERCENT OF MY HONEST PAY CHECK, AS THOUGH I OWE YOU!!!! FORGET IT,. FOR SOON YOU WILL HAVE TO ACTUALLY HAVE TO WORK TO SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR TAX DEDUCTIONS, EVEN THOUGH YOU WOULD RATHER BE SHOPPING AND LAVISHLY SPENDING MY MONEY YOU SPEND AS YOU WISH AS I SWEAT FOR EVERY CENT YOU SPEND WHILE I SWEAT EVERY $ OF IT!!!! I PROMISE YOU WILL HAVE TO EARN EVERY $ YOU SPEND IN THE NEXT YEAR, SO ENJOY WHILE YOU "THINK YOU CAN!!!" I

I was a boy in the 70s and watched The Waltons all the time. I wished John Walton had been my father. As a dad now, I sometimes think of Ralph Waite as John Walton and try to act like that with my son.

Ralph Waite is a wonderfully subtle actor. Handsome and intelligent he brought such a presence to the role of John Walton. He personified everything that was decent and honourable about the working man.

I dont think i have a choice in the mattter. i think fighting over stuff is the lowest form also. But there is always one in the crowd, its sad that we have more then one in our crowd. Do i know you? Have we met? Are you from ore? i just hope I have the chance to buy the house. im getting old and moving is not my thing anymore. my mom and he had the will done way before they died they didnt change a thing and they have to liqudate the house and all his things. I dont have a choice. but thanks.

Well DON"T LET THEM DO THAT TO YOU. I'm sure Danny left a will and instructions. Hopefully his wishes will be followed. You are entitled , as you cared for him. One family memeber can't come down and start running things, just because they think they can. Fighting after a loved one is dead is the lowest, most unscrupulous thing. I hope for the best, for you.

Thank you for that. I am the one that they are trying to kick out. I brought Danny back to the desert because the people in oregon where ripping him off. He had a lot of friends and he was a great guy and He didnt deserve all that. Him and my mom will forever be in my heart. i guess it is stated in the will that they have to sell the house. But im going to try to buy it there is a lot of history here And I cant see anyone else in here, take care ok?

Good for you, i'm glad, I just heard FROM Danny himself, how the family was ripping him off, (in Oregon) when he was alive, And how some family want to kick people out and sell the home and things for the money. I can only imagine when he passed. Stay ethical and good things come our way. And my condolences to you. Danny was a very good friend of mine. And I miss him as well.

I am "The Step daugther"...My name is Dawn. I had the priviledge of taking care of my Dad during his last years, and I am proud of giving a clean and clear account of my duties as his daugther as best I could. I have been crying every day since Danny died because I miss him and the last thing I have in my mind are his belongings. I hope you are not insinuating I am one of those vultures. I dont' care about his stuff, all I want is my Mom & Danny back. There is more to life than material things.

I almost had the chance to meet this gentleman last year, but it wasn't meant to be. I wished for him to know the impact he had on my life. Perhaps one day, I will be able to thank him personally for inspiring me to get well, when my life started to spiral out of control. It's not easy being a well known personality, but when it brings warmth and hope, it's worth it....Bess you, Ralph. Thank you! Sylvia G.

Ralph Waite was wonderful in the Waltons, and equally fine here. I wonder how many people know he served as a marine and was an ordained Presbyterian minister, with an M.Div. from Yale, before becoming an actor. He is quite a guy. And I like that moment at 6:07 - "Thank you, Ralph." "Yep."

When i look back at my child hood growing up in the early 1970,s i try and think of a warm and pleasant memory and think of my mother, and we are both sitting in front of a open fire and we are watching the waltons i suppose it dont get any warmer than that.
