Sadly, this doesn't surprise me. Still like the song.

That supposedly sounded like the lion sleeps tonight? Uhhh yeah no it didn’t. I suppose I could see where you might draw a little inspiration from it to write and record it I guess.

There are cases, where the cover is better than the original; this is one of them. However, the Royalties to the original should have been more substantial.

Huh?? Similar is not the same. However, let us not forget, if others had not made their own version of the tune, it would have likely been lost to history. So, maybe-just maybe, the song being re-arranged and put out by different artists actually saved the tune, which ultimately allowed the "originators" their moment of fame, and their payments..

The West has all along its history only looted, plundered, pilfered, stole anything and everything, any idea and every idea they could lay their hands on.... That's how they became today's West, rich in money and idea stolen from the rest of the world. They think that we don't know or have perhaps forgotten all that. NO! We remember your plunder...

'Uncle' Pete was an old friend of the family. I remember him and my dad and Ernie Marrs (et al) playing Folk songs together in our living room. When Pete recorded this he really thought it was an old traditional song he was performing, as Folk Music does to preserve old songs. When he learned it was composed by a recent artist he honestly and earnestly tried to get his publisher to pay them royalties, but it wouldn't. So he paid Linda a thousand dollars out of his own pocket, which was a respectable sum of money back then. "The Lion" was the nickname of the last King of the Zulu People, and the song proclaims he is not dead, only sleeping, and shall return to free his people from bondage. If you want to hear my dad, with Ernie Marrs and Eleanor Walden, he is the rather unlovely baratone in "Plastic Jesus" in the Smithsonian Archive.

Give me a break. Are people saying no other song was performed by a new group and changed around. I have seen popular songs where there were many different covers performed and one of the later was much better than the original.

To be honest the fact that the man got any money at all shows that it's not all evil. If it was considered public, then they'd have been within their rights to give nothing (sadly!), but the fact that he got $1000 is $1000 he wouldn't have had otherwise.

This is a Zulu song originally from South Africa, KwaZulu. Imbube is the lion 🦁and King Shaka was called Imbube (the lion). This song was sang After death of King 🤴 Shaka Zulu (Imbube - The Lion) . We were saying,”Our King Shaka Zulu is not dead but he is asleep.” It was another way of mourning for him

Stolen... no. Covered and more popular in the cover version than the original. Not the first or last time it's happened but instead just an unfortunately normal aspect of the music industry. Carl Perkins > Elvis Kris Kristofferson > Janis Joplin Leonard Cohen > Jeff Buckley Dolly Parton > Whitney Houston The Arrows > Joan Jett. The list goes on and on and on.

For historical accuracy, all of the hearings looking into entertainment people who were communists, the hearings were in the House of Representatives. McCarthy was in the Senate. He had nothing to do with those hearings. He was looking into communists in the U.S. Army.

The spanish Rachel speaks is gramatically incorrect. She said: "Tu madre es loca". But she should've said: "Tu madre está loca." Both can be translated the same into english but, the first is gramatically incorrect.

The payout by Disney of 2.5 milion was a joke. The family should have demanded much more. Disney had nothing to defend themselves, they broke the copyright law, and that was proven with hard evidence. I don't know, why the family had hired that expensive lawyer, when in fact this case could have been taken up by a student.
