Great review, two questions : Does the 2017 or 2018 e-Gold have these two features ? 1 - Charge setup / config such that battery % charge can be stopped at something less than 100% ? 2 - An active battery temperature management system ? ( Our family leases, and LOVES, our 2016 LEAF SL. But the lease is up in Dec 2018 and we are considering the e-Golf as our next EV.)

I see 105 miles in the range after charging at home. I drive from Newark to SFO (25 miles). By the time I reach SFO, I only got 60. What gives? I drove @ around 70 typical average MPH on Highways 84 and 101. AC was on but just to keep the cabin comfortable with the windows up on highway driving. Also, I was picking someone up. So eGolf SEL was practically empty.
@CapitolVolkswagen7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! The e-Golf range is only an estimate. It will adjust drastically based on driving conditions.Driving faster than 50 mph causes the range to drop faster than normal.When using AC also, the effective range is also reduced.If you have any more questions about your eGolf or range you can call us at 888-232-5834.
@zanderhicks47177 жыл бұрын
Capitol Volkswagen so is this a suggestion that I drive under 50 miles an hour on the bay area for us just so I can drive farther? my point is that I think the car should have intelligence to display the realistic driving range given the average speed on the freeways it is being driven on. I'd like to add too that I often get the exaggerated driving range given that I really never reach it even if I've been driving on city streets at less than 50 miles an hour most of the time with in that charge

I'd be sold if the range was doubled. It's not enough to drive from one city to another in my country (NZ) Also I hear it's even more expensive than the Tesla Model 3...
@danmobile8 жыл бұрын
+xIAMDAVEx Maybe in 2+ years when you can actually buy a Model 3 there will be a similar priced/range VW.
@chrisweeksnz8 жыл бұрын
xIAMDAVEx The eGolf Touch demoed at the Paris motor show is promising though - claimed to be up to 300km, which probably means 200-230km in the real world. I've asked VW NZ about when the release to NZ is going to happen and which model it will be (I imagine the increased range is simply better battery tech, so it might be able to be retrofitted). Just need to get a response back....

The reviewer of the eGolf is not correct about charge times. A level 1 charger (110v wall outlet) will take about 20 hours to complete. A level 2 charger (240v) will take about 4 hours to complete. A level 3 (480v DC fast charge) will take 30 minutes to get you to 80% charge.

Double the range and I'm sold. I've been in love with my '08 Golf since day 1 and I'd love to continue to be a Golf owner, but I don't want to ever have to worry about range. 150 real world miles would be the number I'm looking for on a single charge.

In the video you say a couple little things that annoyed me: Rpm's : revolutions per minutes? Just say rpm You also talk about how the differential prevents tire squeal during throttling in the corners: when you corner a car you break then throttle out. Throttling is what internet providers do when you use too much data.

This is an excellent review, but the explanation of the charging times are a bit off-Level 1 charging, with a standard 110 V household outlet, is 20 hours from an almost-empty battery, not six to eight hours. (Level 2 charging, at 240 V, is around 3.5 to 4 hours.) And what he called “boost charging” is what is more commonly known as Level 3, or DC Fast Charging (480 V), which is capable of charging 80% of the battery in 30 minutes. Unfortunately, V10PDTDI, VW of Canada isn’t making the e-Golf available in Canada yet (let’s hope they do, someday soon).

+Kent K. Steinbrenner Yeah I was confused when he said six to eight for 120v. I though tit was more than twice that.

Is there an adapter for a nation with 220-240 volt electrical supply ? I live in Israel. Also, what is the correct range for the vehicle fully charged in kilometers?
@kentsteinbrenner7 жыл бұрын
72Yonatan Your best bet would be to get an eGolf from Europe, not imported from North America. The reason is that although there is an adapter available from the J1772 connector used in North America to the Type 2 (Mennekes) plug used in Europe (and I presume Israel as well), that will only be for the regular 240 V AC charging. Nobody makes an adapter for the differences between the CCS plugs in North America and those in Europe, so people who import an American eGolf find they can't use the fast-charging (DC) plugs at all. (Someone in Iceland imported a U.S. vehicle and found that out after the fact). The U.S. EPA rates the current 2016 eGolf’s range as 134 km, and the upcoming 2017 eGolf (which should be available by April of this year) as 200 km (EPA figures are much more “real world” than the fantasyland NEDC test figures that you will see in European advertising-one hopes that when the European tests start including real-world testing, the numbers will better reflect actual usage).

Looks nice. When they make a 60 kWh version and there are 135 kW chargers available for it everywhere, it will successfully replace an ICE car.
