First, thanks to Rabia and Lote Tree Press for publishing the book and for hosting this event. Second, my apologies for any mispronunciations and errors contained in my readings of and my comments on my poems. Third, the translations of Cold Mountain poems that I refer to in the video are to be found in Cold Mountain: 100 Poems by the T'ang poet Han-Shan translated by Burton Watson and published in 1970 by Columbia University Press. Fourth, in describing my transition from Tibetan Buddhism to Islam I am in no way judging Tibetan Buddhism; I am simply relating a very personal experience. I have great respect for Buddhism and will always be grateful for what it gave me. Lastly, I'd like to make it clear that during the two Subud latihan experiences I talk about in the video I was conscious at all times - the Subud latihan is not a trance experience. Men and women receive the latihan separately. No person directs the latihan, it is a spontaneous, individual receiving.
