I can be wrong, and maybe it was a change from the 6th ed overhaul or something, but I swear I read in a rule book that casting a spell went as follows, but everyone shorthands it; Reveal the card from cand and declare cast. Select targets as needed Tap mana sources and/or designate floating mana to pay for the spell. So, wouldn't making the cast and selections, then tapping lands be in sequence?

As someone that actually played standard suring Kamigawa block, the flip cards weren't actually as problematic as you're making them out ro be. It's not actually difficult to keep track of.

Watching this 3 years later, knowing that wotc never learned their lesson.

Prophecy was bad but you left out some things. For example you talked about Rhystic cards but no mention of Rhystic Study! You know, the Prophecy common that is worth $44? Great card! Having a bunch of those leftover from back in the day was my reward buying Prophecy. Chimeric Idol wasn’t great but I think you don’t understand what that was for. That would be paired with a Citadel of Pain which dealt damage to players at the end of their turn for each untapped land they control. I think this was partly to screw with blue players who always want to save mana for interaction. Chimeric idol would make sure it didn’t hit you too since back then there was mana burn so you would have to use all your available mana every turn or take damage
