great plane and excellent flight ... How many amps does the motor+prop combo draws ?

About 78A and stays barely warm when you manage throttle to make it a long flight. The motor and battery have time to radiate some of the high power heat between maneuvers.

I really like your video. I have a T28 in the box that I will get ready soon this summer to fly. I am a bit of a novice getting back into RC. I have a 3 blade 16x10, can you share your thoughts about using that prop on the stock airplane? If I want to try that prop, what other changes do you think should be done? Thank you much. Your plane looks great with the 3 blade on it.

The stock 70A ESC will run at its maximum, and without any fins on the heatsink, will probably shut down if pulling 78-80A with the 17x8. I'd think the motor would run the 16x10 just fine as long as you keep full power for only maneuvers or a quick speed run. But 16x10 would definitely give a great cruising speed at half throttle. Great addition to appearance too! Get a 100A ESC, an Avian100 is nice with all it's telemetry.

That's the one. People flying 80/90mm EDF or prop planes using 6s5000 should be using 6s2p9000 P45B @900g and provide 5:30 full throttle on V2 avg 80A
@deadstickduck2025
@deadstickduck2025 4 ай бұрын
If it's single 6s4500 you can expect burst up to 75A for several seconds and a continuous of 40~50A depending on your cooling. The stock Avanti/Vipers have great cooling thru the battery compartment.

This might be something I would be interested in, but only when it's retail off-the-shelf, not custom built. Seems like a great alternative to LiPos in the certain flight regimes.

@deadstickduck2025

Cut the main legs 20mm below the coil and the 5mm stock FW A-10 struts slip on and held with 2 set screws. Not much easier than that.
@deadstickduck2025
@deadstickduck2025 8 ай бұрын
The nose gear needs a little rework... but easy. Trim off the top 15mm of the A-10 struts, drill the 5mm hole 10mm deeper and then a new M3 threaded hole for the set screw. Don't forget to file small flats for the set screws.

Hi - could I ask what the weight comparison to a Lipo is and the power differential on the Li-Ion? I must confess to being a sceptic with an open mind to persuasion on whether they are actually better than Lipos in all circumstances. Edit: I just read the other comments so can see the weight. It’d still be interesting to see what power the Li-Ion can hold with the throttle fully open for say 30 seconds versus a Lipo

Why would anybody want to fly for 12 minutes..... Just land and swap in a cheaper lipo that cuts weight and gives more amps for funner flight?

I can get 12 minutes from a 6S 10,000 mah Lipo but that's with conservative throttle use which some find boring but I don't mind the slower paced flying. I typically don't like my batteries falling below 20-25% during flight so I won't push that flight time any further. From my experience flying this plane on larger batteries I find using anything larger and heavier you start moving into diminishing returns and would you really want to fly for that long anyways? For me personally, 10+ minutes with this plane I am starting to get a bit tired and certainly wouldn't want to make a mistake as a result of reduced concentration. These planes aren't exactly very cheap and can be damaged easily.

Does the 16x8x3 prop = more power but less top end speed? I keep looking for a motor/prop combo that would give it about 10 mph more on the top end but haven't found the right combination that is doable and safe.

That´s a ton of weight, but it doesn´t reflect on the A-10 flying or taking off... With that 25 minutes you have enough for one day flying. It´s like when I flew my first glider, my neck was hurting because of looking up so long xD xD

SMC 6s5300hv 731g, 6s2p9000li 877g.... so, 150g more for 7500mah vs 3750mah. Double the capacity in the tank.
@adamtrzaskowski3901
@adamtrzaskowski3901 Жыл бұрын
@@deadstickduck2025 Not a correct comparison - you need to take the higher voltage of the SMCs into account. SMC HV operate between 4.35V and 3.8, whereas the Molicels between 3.9V (the voltage drops from 4.2 to 3.9 almost instantly) - 3.0V. The total power per weight is stil higher with Molicels, but nowhere near double.

Run 2000w for 2:36min on a 6s5000lipo, or 2000w for 4:27min on 6s9000li. True, just @71% more, not double.
@MichaelMaujean
@MichaelMaujean 11 ай бұрын
The biggest difference is number of cycles. Molicel says 500 and I would expect a lot more if you look after them. Good luck trying to get 100 from a lipo without it looking like a water bottle. With the cost of living these days, it's all about return on investment.

14S2P of Molicel P45B is ca. 1950g. A lot. I had my Freewing F-22 fly on a setup like this - but without landing gear (so a lot lighter). Does this Viper maintain good flying characteristics compared to a standard setup?

Did you check the speed? It doesn’t look any faster than the stock V3 on 6s which is 114-118 mph not in a power dive. Perhaps the extra weigh is negating the extra voltage.
