I have read somewhere that the Government can have some IP ownership of an SBIR funded project after 4 or 5 years. Is that correct?

15:16 is this for series A? For seed investors, according to a recent presentation, the frequency of the "Wow" was closer to 1 in 25 with an overall ROI on the portfolio to be ~ 4x. If you missed the Wow investment the ROI was ~1.5 of the portfolio. If your biotech has solid IP and SAB of top academic institutions in the right area, the valuation of your stat up is 20x higher or more. While exceptional, series A financing over 100M is possible.

As a respiratory physiologist who has worked in breathing sensing with medical devices for quite a while, I would advise you to quit this specific method. Like most ideas on variations of impedance plethysmography, one only measures respiratory effort, not any particular volume. Various parts of the body may stretch to gain ventilation, but unless the airway is wide open, air may not move, or if there is airways resistance (e.g., asthma, mucous, etc.), the air movement will be highly variable for the effort provided. In addition, the abdomen oftentimes is the worse place to put a sensor. It would be better to have one both on the abdomen and the thorax, but again, there's that pesky airway resistance thing. Noninvasive airway sensing systems have been around for over 50 years, and there is little new under the Sun, which is why there are none that have been very successful. The best this device can do will be to measure respiration rate. Anything "number" related to minute ventilation is plus or minus a huge percentage from actual. Why do you think physicians use pulse oximetry? It works, and works well. If it's close to 100, you're breathing well, if it's low, you're not. Done. Perhaps this could be used as a home SIDS detector for really nervous parents, but I doubt if it will go beyond that in the clinical setting, however cool the electronics are. The mechanics of breathing are, unfortunately, set against you.

looking forward to this, but poor sound quality (high frequency hiss) is making it very difficult to consume. For future reference this type of hiss can be easily removed using basic audio software or hardware.

This is awesome information. Really cannot thank you guys enough for your generosity putting this out into the public. This has been extraordinarily helpful, and is a phenomenal overview and summation of so many important points that are very challenging to find in a single place in any cohesive manner. Super appreciate it.

Very insightful discussion on the topic of changes to the FDA regulated landscape during the pandemic. We need to continue the discussion on the next changes we can expect to see and what changes will last beyond the foreseeable future. It's important, however, that we don't lose sight of the objective to protect public health while in the industry's pursuit to make FDA processes faster or where companies become exempt to deploy the Quality System Regulation (QSR) under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).
