How much weight can you load your sled ? I normally pull about 100 pounds or more.

Built this sled today! Am having a problem with the skis twisting and not staying even with opposing side. Any tips?

Being a plumber I don't believe I didn't think of this nice sled! Will be building my own , maybe a couple improvements maybe not looks good

(Build List Below) A good idea for someone that isn't really inclined to build anything else or don't have the time/tools, there is a lot of issues with this. I felt lazy and didn't want to get the welder out but I soon learned that not only is this over $100, but since the taper threads are different this will never be truly square which will cause more issues. The pipe flexes under weight where the skis will lift sideways causing it to cut more into the ground, I fixed that by instead of using (2) 36", I used (4) 24" which I wanted 48" wide instead of 36" and used a T in the middle to run a middle brace. However, galvanized is quite heavy.. I don't think this is really ideal if you're trying to haul a big shanty and a lot of supplies like livescope, etc. Also, not sure why he didn't put a build list in the description or in the video, doesn't make much sense to show how to build something but don't tell you straight-out what to get. Here's the build list below. (All 1/2 Inch Galvanized pipe and fittings.) 4 - 1/2 Tee's 4 - 18" long Pipe (I used 12") 4 - 6" long pipe 2 - 36" Pipe 4 - 1/2 Pipe mounts 2 - Carabinners 4 - Threaded Eye Bolt with Nut (I used 5/16) 1 - Pack of 3/4" #10 Countersunk Phillips Stainless Screws, and not a bad idea 1/2" #8 if ski is thin.

If you build one I’d love to see what yours turns out like if you don’t mind. I’m still thinking I’ll go with PVC but his did go together really easy??
@Kedroniteproductions18 күн бұрын
@@barrybrand4103 I did build it, not a fan of it. Hard to keep it square and threads are consistent but it's definetely doable but heavy. I would recommend using Extension Laddar Stabilizers, that what i ended up using. Way better and easier.

Another idea for the cross section pipes that works for me. I added a threaded nipple connector and a union connection on one side of each cross section. Instead of backing one end out to tighten the other, then you can tighten each side down vey snug and easy enough to take apart.
@akplaya17Ай бұрын
So I built this, but things want to shift a bit so the skiis are uneven. Suggestions? I want to be able to put it together from the truck and go.
@TriHard612Ай бұрын
Same, only thing I can think of is thread lock on the base/first connectors to keep them from rotating. Part of what I liked is breaking this down all the way though. If anyone has other ideas...

Here is the solution I found. I got a section of PVC (1 1/2" diameter for 1/2" metal rods), drilled two holes a little larger than the outside diameter of the metal rods. Space the holes the same distance as the center of the flanges. I left roughly 2" of pvc on the outside of the hole to add structure. Slide this PCV over the cross sections. If the holes in the PCV are fairly snug, this eliminates the shift in the ski. Cost $6 for a 5' section of PVC, smallest that fit my needs. Hope this helps.

Just started fishing the Maitland for bass this year. My son and I have caught and release maybe 50-75 smallmouth over a 4 day stretch. Beautiful river and so much fun. The ones you’re catching here are twice the size we ever caught. Nice job!

It was a very good concept, except it's more like double the cost, over all turned out great. If you're looking to go cheaper PVC would be the way to go.

One trick is to run bigger baits. Top water plastic swimmers like salamanders or frogs, or run circle hooks. Or, you cannot some smaller chubs and use them. And strip it faster. It creates more excitement, which might draw more attention from the trout.

How much weight can I put on this smitty sled? I tend to carry a lot of stuff. Deep cycle batteries, augers, 20 lb propane tank, a big shanty... I mean I will camp out there on the ice for 10-12 hours and do night fishing also...
