As another person commented, 'share your experiences' so here goes, I had fun with dyslexia along with undiagnosed ADHD (2e), ASD and ODD. I had great first and second grade teachers, they started in the 1930's. After first grade the teacher gave me a stack of fairly simple books with descriptive pictures such as "See Spot run" even if I saw "See Sqot rwm" I could decipher the words. Second grade teacher steered me towards books from the library with descriptive pictures that went with one or two paragraphs of simpler words. My dad loved bookstores and often picked out books for me that pushed my reading abilities. Those teachers let me sit in back of the class, if I stimmed too much or became 'lost' I was sent out to pound the chalk out of the erasures or was sent to the principle with a mystery note - secretary sent me off to the washroom and the note was "answered" when I returned, back to the classroom and the teacher would put the note in her desk to read later. In third grade my first book without pictures was Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in the original English. I found it fun to read so wrote a book report on it in the same style of English... that went over like a lead balloon. I was sent to a tutor to learn how to spell and use "the, they, them, there, their, they're" and other similar words. The tutor picked up that I knew those words but had trouble with multi syllable words that started the same, once I figured out a longer word I just remembered the word by the first part, that does not always work. Her suggested solution was to read, read, read all kinds of different things and subjects to increase my vocabulary and quickly ask myself "did that make sense" after each sentence, if not then slowly go back over the sentence word by word. Reading became my favorite rainy day activity, dry days were for the H in ADHD. I also was upset with teachers and school so decided to only do enough to pass each grade. Seventh grade I screwed up by getting an A in History and flunking English, I had no interest in naming the parts of a sentence. Latin had been dropped so I taught myself from an older brothers old textbook. High school was a very small boarding school instead of a public high school with 3,000+ students. Languages interested me so French and Latin I became good at to the point of reading books, German, Italian and Spanish were manageable for simple sentences... Russian was a real challenge. At 15 a serious concussion and reading comprehension was out the window. It took several months of determined work to regain basic comprehension, the languages helped in understanding words. It took ten years until I could manage University Grandson wants to watch Thomas now 😊 Getting stuck on words - yup words and in particular names of co-workers, they have gotten used to it and will often suggest if I'm really stuck - that often is correct or gets me restarted with the word or name I intended. Samples of what a dyslexic person may see, I breeze through them as I am used to seeing words in different formats. Unfamiliar titles... Yeah, I get a good laugh sometimes compared to what I first saw and the actual title. This also happens with unfamiliar subjects or trying to read when tired. Teachers - be pacient with us, help us find strategies that work for us, don't put us in the spotlight unless you are sure we can manage, don't take recess away from us unless it's just a couple of minutes to try to read to you, for other ND students the erasures may be gone but that mystery note trick is a good one to give us a break (as long as we are not runners, then maybe pair us up - that break can do wonders for us).

Me in honors ELA 2: "That was a wonderful essay. But we do discount for spelling errors." *Downloads Grammerly. Keeps a dictionary on-hand.* Spanish Teacher: "You switched the 'i' and the 'e', where are your teildes?" *Creates rhymes to get the grammar rules.* Me in math: *Erases entire paper, realizing I switched the intial formula.* Also me: "Straight A's." Others: "You don't know how hard it is to get good grades." Me: 😅🥲 "Yeah. No clue, whatsoever."💀

It's great that you point this out as I'm pretty certain very few people know the difference between evidence based and research based programs. I want to be able tohelp you promote this information so I have added it to a playlist on our channel and subscribed to your channel. I also thought our readers should be informed so I have posted it to our blog. We'll make sure to promote that through our social media channels also. Keep up the good work!

To all the non-dyslexic kids, you can become more successful than the aforementioned people. If they worked tirelessly to get to their respective positions, imagine what you can DO. Work hard people.

I have dyslexia I can't do math, I can barely read and I can't spell the only everything is spelled correctly is because I'm speaking into my phone and a spell it out for me. My problem is I'm trying so hard to get a good paying job to provide for my wife and kid. Every time I find a job I know I would be good at they want me to take a test and I fail every time. I'm working as security and I hate it plus I'm making $9 an hour its sucks and I'm at the point I just want to break down an cry. If anybody can help me please do.

Trevor, You don't have to live like that. Dyslexia can be overcome at any age. Look at the Barton Reading system. Even a family member can teach you with these videos. www.bartonreading.com/dyslexiaSymptomsSolutions_Part01.html

One thing some find helpful, is being upfront with potential bosses. Tell them you have dyslexia, you never know, they may have it, or have a child with it, they may be able to relate and give you the chance you need. Chin up mate.

Those of us who are Dyslexic know there is a spectrum. We also know there are different methods and some methods work better for others. Sharing is great, shaming another is stupid. Be part of the solution to succeed, don't belittle others. This was interesting hearing the guy talk about getting stuck on a word and how he can't go onto another word,,,,,rather he is stuck and his mind goes blank. That has happened to me several times, and I always try and bring a typed and highlighted speech to avoid that happening.
