Fun math (and science?) fact here: Iron has an atomic radius of 0.126nm, thus a diameter of 0.252nm. A 1 inch thick object would be no more than about 100 million layers even if it were possible to get the atoms to align perfectly instead of smushing them into an amorphous mass. 1 trillion layers, even at 1 atom thick, would require an object with a thickness roughly half the height of the Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan.
