MW broadcasts from BBC R4 have been discontinued on April 15th.

I use mount on telescopic extender as in picture of this video it can be seen. Made by myself from another telescopic whip. When I need more gain I just slide it on top of Qodosens little stock whip antenna. With that extender I can get more gain and decode RDS of far stations including PI code so I know 100% which transmitter I'm picking up. Total antenna becomes about 120 - 130 cm (47" to 51") with mount. Original is only about 49cm.

It's quite powerful so any decent receiver with basic Shortwave coverage should be able to pick it up.

Yes, last couple days stations came clear within 400km distance. Mainly Poland, Denmark, South Sweden, Russia (Königsberg). Stations from Latvia can be received basically all the time. Anyway, I think it can be even better as yesterday I also heard few German stations but couldn't ID them correctly.

It's not perfect all the time. Some nights are better than other. In general - the LW ferrite (for MW there's separate ferrite rod) is not very big or so. I think it's all about how this radio has been designed inside.

@@qwertyamdx No my info is now way out of date. All MW transmitters are now closing down, and the separate schedule for LW is gone. LW has had a reprieve for now. A lot of this is due to the reach of LW for things like shipping forecasts.

@@TheChrisheath7 Longwave broadcasting of BBC R4 has already been extended three times (in 2020, 2023 and 2024) due to the fact that the frequency carries electricity teleswitching data which manages the different tarriffs (Economy 7, Economy 10 etc). There is a plan to replace the old equipment with 'smart meters' which use the cell network (and therefore can not only receive, but also send data). The rollout is going very slow though. Some data: in 2020 it was estimated that 1.4 million devices relying on the LW signal were in use. In 2024 - 900 thousands, so the pace at which they were replaced was around 125 thousands per year. Also in the current year it was decided that the LW signal will stay on air at least until June 2025. This means that the rate would need to be increased by almost 7 times if the deadline was to be met. We will obviously see whether the service will get extended again, but I don't think that the chances are equal to zero.

You can use external antenna also on FM. For example I have two separate outside (non directional) whip antennas which I'm using with my Onkyo Integra T-9990 FM tuner. But they also work pretty well with Qodosen when connected through DX-286s antenna jack.

Probably yes. I haven't tried another NXP TEF 6686 receivers, but to be honest at least Qodosen DX-286 don't look ugly like other TEFs. But anyway, DX-286 design is a copy of Sony ICF-SW1.

MW is good to average like for example XHData D-808. LW is really good for such a small receiver. Better than in similar same size receivers like XHData or Tecsun. By the way, internal ferrite dimensions is 8 cm or 3.15".

@@isleifoterogarcia4478 at some point yes as DX-286 / SR-286 is known for high power consumption and in fact I like the dial light always on when I'm using it at night.

That's not the case as I didn't tried to tune exactly in 5 Khz steps.

It's simple smartphone / pad adjustable width and angle stand.

It's quite complicated inside to service. Basically you need to disassemble all unit to reach internal parts like capacitors.

Obviously Sony ICF-2001D is better overall quality receiver. I own 3 of them, but with today's technology it's hard to compete. Biggest advantage of new radios is switchable filtering instead of fixed. It gives superb selectivity.

Yes, with it's capability to use different bandwidths there is no doubt.

QODOSEN has certainly set the performance bar incredibly high! And it’s very affordable too! The (((STEREO))) decoder is also very sensitive and is triggered by weak and distant signals as well! Simply amazing!
