**Question:** I used to use the real-time LUT feature on my Panasonic S5IIX to convert V-Log to ARRI Log C, but I read that baking the LUT into the footage may reduce it from 10-bit to 8-bit. After learning this, I stopped and now keep the footage in V-Log, using CineMatch in post. Have you heard of this-does baking in the LUT reduce footage from 10-bit to 8-bit? I believe the real purpose of this feature was probably to convert your log footage to a committed specific look, not log-to-log. I don’t want to take any chances now, but I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Personally, I’ve never heard anything about this idea that real time LUT has the effect and I’m not sure how that would even happen or work? Additionally, I have used a lot of converted footage and never saw any of the telltale signs of 8 bit footage personally

This is wild when you sit and think about it. Being able to match almost any camera to another with a few clicks is powerful, and having the ability to bake it in is KEY❤

Hey man, got a quick question/weird thing with my gh7. So when I am in open gate 5.8k mode in manual focus, I cannot seem to move my little direct focus area box off the bottom of the screen. It can only move side to side, but it's stuck to the bottom of the screen. Neither the joystick nor my fingers can get it off the bottom of the screen. Does yours do this? I can't seem to find anything on this on reddit or anywhere. thanks in advance.

Hi 😂😂😂 I am doing the same all the time using Cinematch HDR workflow in DaVinci (which is using CST + own sensor match from conematch) I am usually converting, GH5,5s,P4K,P6K,S5 org,S5ix to ARRI mini log C and doing ARRI conversion after it... For monitoring what I did in Resolve is to make LUTS which converts directly to Arri log C rec 709 to make monitoring easyer for each camera...I am not backing them in camera but using it just to have every viewing lut like ARRI log -rec 709 footage... Working great so far DR is the biggest problem and as well 12 bit vs 10 bit...you can see the difference sometimes Braw,prores raw (cdng converted) vs H265 ,264 10 bit footage. Best program ever Cinematch specially combine with film convert emulation...

It's funny....... when I was being taught photography back in the 1990's, it was all about composition and where to place your subject, and blurring the background was rarely, if ever, discussed. And you couldn't be a professional if you shot 35mm... it had to be medium format. Same debate now, just re-bagged.

Choose the best tool for what you need... 24x36 has better high sensibility capabilities but until 6400 iso mft is more than good and above you can still use a denoiser. Then I'm old school and don't often need 12800 iso and prefer a small pocketable mft + prime than a big 24x36 or an excellent medium format. I'll no more take even an EM1 as an edc but a GM5, GX800, EPL6 or even a TZ100 which is more than capable in almost all situations. Versatility is the reason why I chose mft 10 years ago: for the size and weight of a 5D + 35/1.4 I can now bring 2 cams and 3 or 4 f/1.7-1.8 primes. I can travel with an EM10-2 + 9-18 & 14-150mm + a tiny 20mm in a pouch in my backpack or take the EM1-II + grip and f/2.8 trinity to look more professional for wedding clients... For video work Panasonic is a sure value, even if last FF are better in very low light for those who don't know how to use light panels... All modern products are good but mft is all I need for my goals.

i have the sigma 17 - on an S5ii and S5 though....I use the in body ex. tele converter at the middle range and get nicer framing for impromptu people shots when traveling....it's a great tool for travel photos, but not paid work, as it knocks the megapixels down in half - though Lumix says there's no quality change. That 17 makes carrying the S5ii around for a day with the family a pleasure. Also - it does great with the APS-C crop for video too. The 35 is beautiful, tried to buy a used one at a brick and mortar, but the clerk fell in love with it as we were checking it out on a camera in the shot, and he kept it for himself and I went with a used 65 instead - it's my go to portrait lens now.

G'day from Australia Rhett. I'm really leaning towards the GH7 to do what I need from a camera for my channel. Wondering if you could suggest an idiot proof zoom lens that will pair nicely for run and gun hand held shooting. Chasing one lens for filming 4wding, talking head, wildlife and cooking segments. All outdoors, often poorly lit, mostly hand held - so stability is really important. I just want to use 4k 60fps footage straight out of the camera without colour grading. Is the Leica 12-60 that's available as a kit lens good enough? Or is there something else out there I should look at? LOVE your opinion mate! Cam Wild
@RhettThompsonFilm
@RhettThompsonFilm 16 күн бұрын
Sorry for the delay in reply! If we want an all in one lens I have a few thoughts for sure. The Leica 12-60 is one of the top contenders. Stopping down to F4 basically provides you with a constant aperture, mostly parfocal, great autofocusing, weather sealed, great for macro 24-120mm zoom lens in a pretty small package although for wildlife I think it might fall SLIGHTLY short. Another wealther sealed options with greater range but some optical compromises is the Lumix 14-140 which gives you a 28-280mm range which is a lot better than the 60mm of the leica but the light gathering and background blur is a bit less for the interviews and the autofocus will be a bit slower. Switching to Olympus you also have some interesting options and they should perform OK even if I havent tested them The Olympus 12-100 F4 is much larger than these two lenses but has a good compromise of range vs quality and light gathering giving you the same 24mm equiv wide and a fairly close 200mm at the long end although the IBIS and OIS of the lens wont work together. And the most extreme lens and best for wildlife potentially on this list but potentially one of the more expensive and weakest in the specs (outside its crazy zoom) might be the Olympus 12-200. In daylight this will technically cover pretty much everything youd ever want but again the slower aperture might cause issues if it gets dim. 2 lens solutions - The first is more budget especially used and that would be the Leica 12-60 and the Lumix 100-300 ii, both weather sealed and the Lumix 100-300 would be used specifically for wildlife and is really decent for its range and price although there may be different options. The second may be more pro but used could be still good and thats the Olympus 12-40 and 40-150 which both have a solid 2.8 aperture and more range so youd only have to switch occasionally and also have F4 versions that are smaller if thats important to you. I hope this helps a bit and lmk if you need any more help!
