This is one of the best, most informative and well-shot amateur (I assume?) videos. No waffle, really interesting delivery. Cheers, I learned a lot from that. Please make more videos, I can see you put a lot of time into that and it's definitely paid off. Thanks for the many tips, I didnt know about the lid hinge staying open, looking forward to filling up next time.

Before air conditioning, that fort must have been quite a sauna. Especially with the wool uniforms and no windows, putting 300 men in there with an engine room. I cant imagine the environment inside. It was so well made...could have lasted...but a seeious mistake of the most basic need...water. If they kept up the water de-salinization equipment operating...they probably could have prevented the death march or other horrors by fighting on.

The N26654 was not the model that was the aircraft itself, as identified by the FAA. Every aircraft has a unique N number. Every one would have a different number. Even if they were the exact same model.

Tomorrow I’m going onto Yuma proving ground to see the TC-497 ever since I saw this video a year ago I’ve wanted to go and now I finally get my chance to go Edit later: I think we talk to the same Mark from YPG, great man. Update after going: Loved to see the outside of it but was extremely disappointed that I wasn’t allowed to go in it. Seeing it was still amazing but wish I could’ve went in it.

I bet Soviets used it for decades as prisoner transport for gulags...then gave it to some newly independent African country...and Baychimo is still sailing in the heat of Africa. That's my theory.

The ingenuity , grit, courage and determination of the war time generations never ceases to amaze me . Unfortunately the likes we will never see again. Today, political corruption, greed, nepotism, connections and incompetence rule over a beaten down electorate. How far we have fallen in a relatively short time span

Yeah, you can remark about being inside one those buoys as being damp & uncomfortable & complete with a bucket in case you are sea sick. BUT I BET it was a big improvement from being out floating in the channel & not knowing if you will ever be found. Dry clothes, dry smokes & a bit of cognac to calm your nerves & first aid stuff to bandage wounds. Damp & uncomfortable? Maybe but much better than the alternative. Britain should have built A LOT more of there own. 16 is like a neglectful amount considering the number of pilots that were flying over the channel imho! Especially considering how fast Britain had been able to pump out ships in the past. They could have built & deployed 100 of there own version in no time & considering all the Allied war planes crossing the channel, our boys deserved similar devices and to not be out in the channel to be lost or drown. They could have said something & the USA would have churned out 100 in no time & even more luxurious too. Let's face it, the middle of the channel was a very harsh & unforgiving environment! Oh, by the way, I searched for this after hearing Drachinifel answer a question about them during Drydock 215.

Thanks very much for that. When I was young in the Middle East, in the 70s, Nairn buses were still very much part of the recent history. I think things changed a lot when the Kirkuk to Haifa oil pipeline was built in the 30s. with pumping stations labelled H1 to H5. H4 is still the Jordanian border town on the road to Iraq. I don't know when the tarmac road was put in alongside the pipeline, but when I first crossed the desert from Amman to Baghdad in 1977, it was still an extremely bumpy up and down single lane road, and a more than 12-hour crossing in a taxi (so 15 hours for the Nairn bus on desert tracks was very impressive). The two-lane highway wasn't built until the early 1980s under Saddam.

If you happen to have a pilot's license but no boating experience, it seems like the logical yacht. But there's a wrinkle in the dream. I don't know about asia, but in latin america, the police would expect a plane to be left alone at an airport but 100% expect something to be stolen if parked outside an airport at say, a lake near your in-laws. The same goes for the USA. Being the most flashy boat, I suspect kidnapping is more likely as well....if that's something normally done in the area.

I cant get my head around how we had all these posts, observers, warning systems and dedicated people all over the country keeping the infrastructure going. Now in this time of modern technology its dog eggs what we have in place, if anything.
