You think hip hop is party music ? I respect your opinion as a hip hop head for sure but I’m curious as to why you don’t feel like hip hop is more ? Some of my favorite songs of all time aren’t party records (art of storytelling pt 1,through the wire ,rhinestone cowboy,pound cake ,January 28th, it ain’t easy)?

In essence your point is that the hip-hop genre of today and its culture as an extension, is missing the ‘fun’ light hearted side that maintained a real hard street sound and rhythm that A Low End Theory for example had. Really the hip-hop of today is missing producers like Dilla or 9th Wonder which they delivered that duality so well at the time. Something that kinda comes close to capturing that sound in a fresh/unique way at the moderately mainstream level is Earl Sweatshirt’s album “Some Rap Songs”. That album consistently has that soft yet hard hitting production that I recommend giving a detailed listen.
@tochiRTA22 сағат бұрын
@@KevinJXT38 to your first paragraph: absolutely. To your second paragraph, do you know 2 Earl songs that are superb?
@KevinJXT3822 сағат бұрын
@@tochiRTA superb in what sense and by what measure are you asking? if you’re asking as superb as Dilla’s production consistently was back then?….No. However for what it is and what Earl himself had been trying to achieve after his influences, I’d argue Earl’s sound is pretty superb to modern hip hop’s standards. Especially at the underground/moderately mainstream level. (Speaking primarily of his sound not necessarily the content btw)

You're corny bro. You're literally a pseudo intellectual fake hip head whose channel is never going to grow to be honest. You've literally built your platform , (if you call this weak channel built) off hating on actual lyricists, writers, experimentally driven artists and you literally have no sensible, rationale driven critique of any of them. Other than the fact that they're new and younger than you. But at the same time though you'll uplift trash artists like PB Carti with no substance , lyrical value, who don't even rap just so you can put on this pretentious air of " im not old , I'm progressive and avant garde"....but youre not lol.. .. .. .your opinions are arbitrary, full of contradictions and each time, you expose your self as a lame. A troll. A contrariam for the sake of being contrary which Is the lamest, oldest trick in the book. Nothing you do is progressive. Nothing you do pushes forth the culture. Take a forever L fool

@ it's not so much about continuing tradition as it is to innovate in this tradition. Oddisee and Black Milk released a lot of weak stuff with the occasional dope beat. And even that dope beat wasn't some new type of sound if you know what I mean.

@tochiRTA id say black milk definitely has made his own unique stuff. i dont think he sounds like anyone I've heard b4 at least you have to listen to his albums like fever or dive or no poison no paradise. I've tried to explain so many of these things about Kendrick to people... The thing that always blows my mind when I bring up the blinged out crown of thorns and him protraying the savior... Their response is always, "he literally says he isn't your savior on Mr.Morale", so they just dismiss the criticism because of something Kendrick himself says... However they simultaneously act as how he portrays himself, that he's the savior

Great interview and great reaction. When I was young I never thought there would be a day when Wu-Tang would stop dominating the music scene. Hip-hop and specifically, Wu tang, is one of the greatest phenomenon in human history. The sound back then was otherworldly. Right now they are in the process of trying to erase this history. Please keep this going my brother. We need shit like this.
