Great video. Videos like this really pushed me towards getting my Doheny. I have 0 regrets, and surprisingly I think I am no longer a strat guy. I can't believe I'm saying that but it might be true.

Thank you for the feedback. Funny thing, I have a Doheny too, and while I'm not a strat player the Doheny became my main guitar and I don't play my ASAT nearly as much.

The tinny, metallic sounding neck pickup is what makes the jazzmaster. The doheny is more of a telecaster to my ears. Great guitar, just not exactly what one would look for in a JM style guitar.
@upfrontguitarsandmusicllc4365 ай бұрын
Fair enough. The Doheny is definitely an offset for G&L fans. A diehard JM player would likely not be swayed, but we think the Doheny can cover a wider range of music. Thank you for the feedback.

It seems to be a very good bass guitar but I have a question? Sometimes I see one model with only t'2 volume control and not tona and sometimes 2 volume control and 2 tona like a J bass for exemple)? Are there 2 different models? What is her names? Many thanks
@upfrontguitarsandmusicllc436 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out. The mod you're talking about is a normal Build-to-Order option on the SB-2 called the Tone Mod. It's a simple replacement of the front jack with a tone pot and moving the jack to the side of the bass. It's an inexpensive add on to a build so we do tend to build our SB-2's with that option frequently. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions!
@grooveattitude06 Жыл бұрын
@@upfrontguitarsandmusicllc436 many thanks for your answer. Yes, I did it myself with a stacked knobs for volume control and one fit the tone. No need to déplacé the jack. Best regards

Great playing but regarding the sound of the pickups, they are almost lacking all mids. Not sure what he is talking about. Also, aside from the general aesthetic as compared to other single coil pickups, these are nothing like P-90's. Especially the bridge. It is very bright and almost has a lo-fi sound to it.
@upfrontguitarsandmusicllc436 Жыл бұрын
The ASAT Special pickups do sound more like a traditional tele in terms of mid scoop, but they are constructed with bar magnets like P-90's (albeit ceramic rather than ALNICO). The most full bodied tele style pickup in the G&L universe is the ASAT Classic by far. We have a demo of that on our channel as well. We build most of our ASAT specials with a hotter wound bridge pickup to give them a little more meat but translating audio honestly online is always tough too depending on what you're listening through. Thanks for checking out the video!
@islandpools9525 Жыл бұрын
@@upfrontguitarsandmusicllc436 Do you build your own ASAT Special pickups? If so, do you sell them as well? "More meat" sounds like exactly what they need!

Is it louder than a Standard Strat? Will it stand up to a humbucking pickup guitar? I want one but I don’t want it to feel anemic compared to my Gibson Nighthawk when switching guitars
@upfrontguitarsandmusicllc436 Жыл бұрын
The MFD's absolutely have more output than a standard Strat. Any G&L MFD holds up fairly well to a humbucker, but humbuckers vary widely in output. But I frequently bring a G&L Doheny or ASAT and a humbucker guitar to gigs. The bridge pickup on the Doheny is true to form and does not have a lot of bottom, but still way less anemic than a Strat.

G&L for the win for sure. For me. Had the USA Legacy and it livened up every amp I plugged it into. The G&L are definitely superior instruments imo all around. Even the tributes are better than some higher end axes.

I believe the body is Swamp Ash, not Alder. Apologies if I'm wrong.
@upfrontguitarsandmusicllc4362 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, the 2 and 3-tone sunburst finishes are actually "standard" finishes which default on Alder unless you request a different body wood. While we spec out pretty much all our G&L's (some tamer than others) this one would be Alder because we actually like the slightly beefier mid response with the ASAT Special pickups. That being said, Swamp Ash is usually our favorite tonal match with most of the MFD pickups and has the most attractive grain.
@upfrontguitarsandmusicllc4362 жыл бұрын
It depends on the finish. The standard burst colors are alder, while other optional clear finishes are swamp ash. The old school tobacco in the video is alder.

I can send you our PDF booklet of all the G&L options and make as many formal quotes as you'd like. Let me know if you have any questions!

There isn't, because I bought the ridiculously beautiful USA Doheny lefty in orange that UpFront had! That said, I'd encourage you to snag one if you have yet to do so. Another plus of the Donehy beyond its looks and tone is that those curves also make it much lighter than an ASAT, for example. Happy playing to you.

Thank you for your input. I don't hate the Jazzmaster. It has some quirks that for most people don't turn out to be totally useful, and I'm not alone in that opinion. The Doheny is a more straightforward rendition of the offset guitar, and for some that is appealing.
