Eggers does tend to use sexual representations in his films and for some that’s not their thing which is totally acceptable. In one of these comment threads I did go in deep about the themes the film presents and why. But yes movies are art and everyone has a valid opinion!

Spoilers Ahead Sorry I just don’t want people who haven’t sent the film to be spoiled by anything hints why my review may be not as detailed. The whole story revolves around a woman who is in a time of need and looks for a guardian angel of sorts but awakens Orlok instead. He then would enter her mind creating the episodes she mentions to her peers and Thomas. Although they see her pain and torture they don’t understand it. So they push it aside. Orlok continues to consume her mentally and at times physically. So far pushed that Thomas prefers work over taking care of her. As he disguises his working as caring for her as many people do. The men constantly think it’s other things and not focusing on her. They focus completely on Orlok. The world around her focuses on Orlok and not her. Until it’s too late and she’s consumed by it. It’s a story of tragedy disguised as a vampire movie. For his appearance it’s not only supposed to resemble the time period in which they are in but again what vampires were. Originally vampires did not turn others into vampires by biting and sucking their blood. It was always like fuel for them not a turn. The whole turning thing is a more modern approach. He doesn’t need the traditional teeth as he’s a representation of consumption. The three men are very much needed as sure they are useless but that’s the point. They couldn’t figure out the reasoning behind her illness so they kept looking they kept doing their scooby doo witch hunt and left her. They are the problem. Until it’s too late. The three men are representing those who see strange things happen don’t believe them until it’s way too late. I hope some of this was helpful or insightful. If it wasn’t I’m sorry. Agreed, the dracula movie last voyage of the demeter was superior to this film in every way and felt and looked like a proper orlok where as the orlok in this CRAP looked and sounded like dracula which greatly aggravated me and my wife.

It's a film. It has done its job in dividing who likes and who hates it. But I agree it's not worth the price of admission.

Blade is awesome. And It is a rabbit hole. If you want to go deep, you can add all the Fox movies and both Spidey Sony franchises, The Blade Trilogy, The Daredevil universe. You can get even crazier and do all of the shows. I wonder how watching all of these films and shows in chronological order feels. I considered doing it. But then realized I would have to watch alot of junk like fan4stic. But even Alice wouldn't take that trip down the rabbit whole.
