I have told Kelly she has no idea how many people's Maverick has actually touched. She shares Maverick on a FB page, sharing comments about him, along with candid photos. You can see how Maverick touches people and how much Maverick loves his job.

My tribute to Kebbie: my heart girl, my hero girl, my forever girl you are running FREE. My heart is broken, but sometimes saying goodbye is the kindest thing to do. We have really been saying goodbye little by little every day for a while and I treasured every moment we have had together. You took your last breaths this morning surrounded by love. You are loved by so many having dedicated yourself to serving all of us "hoomans." You have been an amazing best friend and search dog since I picked you up as a crazy 8-week old puppy who earned the nickname "the Kebinator" as your trained "jump alert" evolved into a full-on body slam. You loved your work and your "magic ball" with every fiber in your body. You certified first as a live find search and rescue dog and later as a human remains detection dog working cold cases and doing historical search locating very old burials and ancestral remains. And in between all of that you got yourself some avalanche and first responder disaster certifications. You excelled in everything we took on Kebbie girl. Our time together has been a life well lived and loved. Together we have made magic and lived with purpose. I think you and I were destined to start the work we have been doing in recent years. It is not a coincidence that your last deployment in 2023 took place on the very first Native American on-reservation boarding school in the United States helping locate the unmarked burials of children that never returned home. With your methodical approach to searching you were exceptionally well suited for this work. You will always be an important part of the cause-driven work we do with Cairn Canine Detection, the 501 we created to make a meaningful difference in the world. With CCD we will continue to carry your legacy forward. You had many crucial finds throughout your career which helped solve cold cases locally as well as as a long lost person case in Sweden where you and I regularly coached HRD K9 teams. By far, though, the 2014 OSO Landslide was the most life changing deployment for us and many others. Working side by side with families, excavators, in rubble and 70 feet deep mud, deploying on marshmasters and more changed the course of our search and rescue journey together. Working side by side with families searching for their loved ones changed our mission. Together, you and I became devoted to bringing answers to families left behind, knowing that while we may never bring closure, we sometimes bring answers. I am so grateful to have been able to wake up every morning with a purpose and making magic with you for 14 1/2 years. All that time you could not do your work without me and I could not do mine without you. We were and will always be a team. You have no idea how many lives you have impacted, but I believe you know how much you are loved. As the American Humane SAR Hero Dog 2022 and the main character in our 2022 award-winning bestseller - A Dog’s Devotion: True Adventures of A K9 Search and Rescue Team - you gained some fame and became an awesome ambassador for all SAR teams, locally, nationally and beyond. You were an outstanding public relations dog and always made me proud whether you were my partner at book signings, community presentations, or interviewed with me live on TV. Just as long as there were "cookies" involved. You have left a big hole in my heart. Grief comes in waves. Sometimes unbearable. At other times bringing memories and laughs. That is when I can hear your woofs and feel your gentle nudges against my neck. You made me a better person. If you would like to honor Keb’s legacy and support the work we are doing with Native American boarding schools and old cold cases, you can make a donation to Cairn Canine Detection: suzanneelshult.com/cairncaninedetection/. We are currently fundraising to acquire specialty equipment such as high precision GPS technology.
