I can only imagine their band director is a FAMU graduate, cause Southfield play, marches and performs like The Marching 100....They even are playing all of Famu's arrangements.....Kudos Southfield...

@ aristocratify: Point well taken.….. However, this group recieved "Straight" superior ratings in one of the most competitive music enviornments in the state of Michigan… This was a spring concert that included all elements of the instrumantal music department. If I had posted the band playing this selection, it would have been the festival performance….. You can always go to the MSBOA festival archives (1999) and listen for yourself….

This was a great performance and was befitting to invite a great conductor. My grad school teacher, my mentor, confidante, Professor, "the late" Barney E. Smart. I truly miss him....." heaven has gain a great conductor for it's omega ensemble" Benjamin McKnight Jr. SHS Director of Band & Orchestra (95-2002)

Great intro but the solo passages were not up to par. However, the trumpet solo was played with more confidence then others. Your percussion set was a tad bit too loud in most instances. A rich lower woodwind sound. One of two things are at play, either the ensemble needed more practice time or this tune is just beyond the musical capability of the group. Only the director knows the answer to this question. An overall good group of musicians.

the solo clarinet needs to be a little louder in the beginning
