Redundant if you need to exchange some small talk, but do that trick for more than five minutes and it would become unbearable. If someone is interacting with foreigners on a daily basis you still need to speak the language.

Thank you for this webinar! I attended one of your seminars in Barcelona back in 2005 and it was a game-changer! I'm from Argentina and I was teaching ESOL at a private language school in Barcelona at the time. I've been using this method ever since with much success. Students love it!

"In-flight magazines with grammar notes"! Thank you so much for the belly laugh there. The problem for me at the moment is that this belief that "the verb is where it's at" has been internalized by many of my Mexican B2-level students. Awareness-raising activities are met with skepticism and I'm almost instructed by them (because I obviously don't know what I'm doing) to deliver a mix of light conversation, slow down, clear up my Irish accent , don't get too abstract, and revise all the grammar points that they've learned since B1 without any reference to Spanish (where the verb phrase is king, I think). They inform me that that is the best way to get to C1. That they say is the way I got to C2 in Spanish. A strong invalidation of what I believe and what I've done on various fronts.

Rhetoric Explanation. I appreciate it and pray for you Sir. It is high time to eradicate the darkness of English Grammar teaching method. I want to work for this. I have been working for English language since my childhood. I found you in a library and fall in extrem love of your styles. I am really searching something like your works. I intend to commute my whole life to work for language teaching and this natural ways of learning.

I really appreciate you taking the time to ask important questions, synthesise SLA research and present recent findings. The vast majority of advice on L2 learning and teaching that's easily accessible to the public is based on intuitions and folk theories rather than research.

I ask every teacher I work with to listen to this video at least two times - and take notes. We then break down what Scott said in a *step-by-step* manner through a dialogic approach to learning.

Was it or was it not ST that coined the phrase "beware of geeks bearing gifts"? Either that or he nicked it for a presentation many years ago. Can anyone attribute? Still laughing.

"A dogme style lesson aaaaaaaaah... to show teachers aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah... working with what the students aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah... and using their aaaaaaaaaaaah... aaaaaaaaaah... aaaaaaaaaaah... aaaaaaaaah.." I mean no disrespect. Thanks for sharing your valuable insights and resources, Scott. I really appreciate your passion for teaching and your willingness to help others in the ELT field, I'm learning a lot from you. However, I have to admit that the constant "aaaaaaah, aaaaaah" in your videos can be a bit distracting and make it hard to focus on the content. Have you considered planning out what you want to say before jumping in front of the camera?

Totally agree with Svetlana here. Good use requires expertise. Ask it to generate a text. Then ask it make T/F sentences to check comprehension. Right now it just repeats the same language from the text. Useless. But if you ask it to paraphrase and use synonyms it's way better. But are they good for what you're trying to do/highlight. You need to be a good enough teacher to know what you want the material/task to achive before you even use the tool. Otherwise, I foresee an avalanche of shlock material/meaningless activities thrown at the students all over the world.

I just made a video for my students on how to use ChatGPT as a tool for their own learning. Glad to see there are more teachers out there who are also using it as a tool rather than fear it as some sort of threat. Sam has shared some ideas I am putting into practice ASAP, and I loved the "attention point" hightlighted by Svetlana on how trustworthy it is.
