Italian here, I literally have never heared this song before. Where did you exactly found this "Italian National Hymn"? In what books or scores of yours? I'm searching the words in italian as long as "patriotic song" or "war song" but I can't find anything. Can you help me? Thanks
@AlanThompsonsSongsofBygoneErasАй бұрын
Hi Riccardo. It certainly is a soul stirring song. Getting people to feel patriotic before battle, I guess. My source for this music is an American publication: Heart Songs, Melodies of Days Gone By. The copyright date at the front of the book is 1910. The song is on page 168 to 169. There is no credit given to either composers or lyricists so my assumption is that it was in public domain when the book was published. The sheet music in the book is written for piano recital. There is no intro, bridge between verses or outro either. I construct those by using a few bars at the start and end of the written music. Unfortunately it doesn't have the Italian language version of the lyrics. You may be able to find the Italian lyrics on line. I did a search and came up with this: "Brothers of Italy": The dates mentioned would coincide with the time period. It seems this song was used up to WWI. I was easily able to translate to Italian, via Google translate, but of course it was meaningless to me. www.quirinale.it/page/inno_en

This is absolutely brilliant, utterly crushing and sad but gorgeous still. Listening to this we feel what the writer felt all those years and lifetimes ago. And still the same moon and stars peer down at us when we feel that pain at night ourselves.

Hi, Thanks for your comment. Which songs are you referring to?
@Hgreqt2 ай бұрын
@AlanThompsonsSongsofBygoneEras oh I meant that some of them and their instruments sound similar yet the lyrics are great I enjoy them keep up the great work
@AlanThompsonsSongsofBygoneEras2 ай бұрын
@@HgreqtThanks. LOL. You have noticed that I am not very creative in terms of instrumentation. I use an old acoustic metal string guitar for all of the songs, and get the music from old piano sheet music. I purchased the sheet music about 20 years ago from second hand book stores and opportunity (charity) shops.. The sheets were printed over a hundred years ago. My procedure involves recording very slowly (15 beats per minute) several tracks very slowly, related to the lines provided in the sheet music. Then next procedure is heavy editing to get the instrumental version before singing the words and dubbing yet another track. There is another aspect too, though, some of the songs are different poems accompanied by older tunes. This aspect has resulted in me getting copyright warnings from KZbin, because some of the modern artists that use old tunes to sing their own new lyrics have their own copyright on the songs they produce. Quite understandably. I simply delete my rendition and put up another song that is not affected.

Amazing. This march became a symbol of Freedom as it was deeply connected to the 25th April 1974 revolution in Portugal. I didn't know it had a poem. Lovely, Thank you!!!

Hey wanted to say I appreciate what you do for antique song preservation. This song in particular, I don't know how it ended up in my reccomendations, but it really struck me somehow. Your voice is so gentle, it gives the song such a sorrowful quality. Between that and the instrumentals sounding like an old vaguely familiar computer game I cant quite remember, it just hits me with this odd wave of terrible nostalgia that no other video does. Thank you for making it. God bless the internet.

An old time ballad, which most likely used a simple tune accompaniment to poetry verses.
