Not to take anything at all away from these athletes, but it's just astonishing how much better the best Chinese lifters were around this time period. For example, Lu Xiaojun would have smoked this entire field in the snatch with a typical opening attempt as a 77kg lifter. While being much older than most any of them. But l like that this is now changing, and many athletes from other countries have more recently stepped up and begun to dominate various weight classes. Ok, on to the clean and jerk....

Of course Aramnau wasn’t there. He would’ve crushed ALL OF THEM AS usual like he did in Beijing 08 OG. Aramnau was the greatest heavyweight of that era (-105 kg class which doesn’t exist anymore). The strongest.

Aramnau was a prodigy. At 19 years old, he won both the junior and the senior worlds in the same season. By that age, he was already the greatest 105 lifter of his era. His master class the next year at the Beijing OG was just a confirmation. Klokov, Lapikov, Dolega, Akkaev, all of them were crushed by the teenager who was only 20 years old. Probably the biggest weightlifting performance in the 21 st century. His total 200/236 at Beijing 08 would’ve give him ALL the gold medals of the heavyweight divisions at London 2012 (-105 kg class), Rio 2016 (-105 kg class) and at Tokyo 20 (-109 kg class). Yes, probably the most talented weightlifter of the last 25 years (he was stronger than Ilya) and the strongest best heavyweight since Zakarevitch. He didn’t compete enough but what he has accomplished in his teenage years was simply phenomenal.

i don't get it, why one of the broadcaster says something about Martyrosian's entry total, he said that martyrodian needs at least 230 because he declared a entry total of 440, if i not wrong, entry total's rule is 20 kg less than you declare, that means martyrosian needs to start with a 420 of entry total, he lifted 195 in snatch, he just needs 225 for 420, he started with 230 because he wants not because he needed it

I think Tommy Kono is definitely the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) of American lifters if not the greatest period. Two golds and a silver at the Olympics PLUS six golds, one silver and one bronze at the World Championships. Gold medals in 3 different weight classes. He set 26 world records and 7 Olympic records. Additionally an internationally acclaimed coach.

Alexeev highest Olympic press ever, 521 pounds HOWEVER in a strict seated press with 495 pounds, world arm wrestling supers champ Scott Norton, did 3 reps! Like the wrestling commentator Dusty Rhodes said "brute power, strength, that's the deal on Scott Norton." Another wrestler known to Norton, Scott Steiner, 12 reps with 365 pounds press behind neck, for 3 sets. They were not into jerking weights; pressing only.
