If you don't see the XYZ settings while selecting SPIN, just go to View -> mark the Tool Settings checkbox. I was so frustrated when I couldn't find it, and the tile spun in the wrong direction. Hope this helps!

Have you tried to select the face you want to align in edit mode? In the modeling tab under the "UV Editing" tab.

From Jud_h 's tip, above. He said "for anyone who is stuck on the handle extruding part. In the somewhat left corner of the screen it shows X Y Z make sure the selected axis is the correct axis your rotating around." I think we needed to change the axis to Y, or Z, I've already forgotten which. Try them both and you will see which way the handle grows.

If I understand you correctly, your implying that 50% grey would be the original height, and everything else would be higher or lower? I always assumed black was the default original height.
