This is a useful presentation but unfortunately that moving hand drawing and writing is very distracting.

You didn't mention .... the carry-forward unused concessional contribution cap provisions. The carry-forward rules allow you to carry forward any unused portions of the concessional contribution cap for a rolling five-year period beginning from the 2018-19 financial year. So the cap back then was $25,000, and it changed to $27,500 from July 1, 2021. So let's say that you received concessional contributions of $20,000 in the 2019 financial year, and $20,000 in the 2020 year, and $20,000 in the 2021 year, and $20,000 in the 2022 year. You would have carry-forward contributions amounts of $22,500. So that's the unused portions added up from the year, the cumulative amounts heading into the 2023 financial year, plus the general 2023 financial year cap of $27,500, allowing you to receive concessional contributions of up to $50,000 for the 2023 financial year. However, and this is a big however, you can only utilize the unused carry-forward amounts in a financial year if your super balance was below $500,000 on June 30 of the previous financial year. So to use the carry-forward amount of $22,500 for the 2023 financial year, you would have needed to have had a total super balance below $500,000 on June 30, 2022. If it was higher, you cannot utilize the unused cap amounts. You can still obviously use the $27,500 though.

Is superfund ABN number and ABN number is similar or different? To link my ato to Mygov account, it is asking for my Super fund ABN but my super account is based on TFN. I'm lost.

What i want to know is how the ato would extract the gst out of a foreign business? For example i fill in a web form from a music store in America to purchase a piece for my drum kit and he doesn’t charge me gst, or he does but then doesn’t pass that onto the ato?

@@F14-talktomegoose right so is the ATO gonna send the feds round to ask for it? Smuggle them out of the country to face charges? Or cry to the US feds? Or take it out on the ozzy buyer cause thats the easy option.

@@python27au why would the ATO go after the buyer when its the seller that doesn't remit ?
@python27au
@python27au Жыл бұрын
@@F14-talktomegoose because its the soft option? I read somewhere that if GST isn’t paid at the point of sale it will be applied by customs and you’ll have to pay it before your goods are released. Can the ATO force a foreign entity to hand over cash? Or is it just easier to screw over your own people?

do you need to withhold taxes from independent individual contractors/freelancers working outside Australia?
@cleverlyaccounting
@cleverlyaccounting Жыл бұрын
PAYG withholding is required if payments made to a foreign resident for entertainment or sports activities, construction and related activities, casino gaming junket activities. Other incomes earned in Australia by a foreign resident that are subject to withholding tax in Australia include interests, dividends and royalties.

@cleverlyaccounting
@cleverlyaccounting Жыл бұрын
@@rowel.callanta for tax purposes there are only two types of taxpayers: resident and non resident. There is no such thing called foreign non resident. It is totally bullshit that it is the final consumers that pay GST. If your product sale price is perfectly matched to $100, you cant just increase it to $110 because of GST, because then you make less sales and less profit. You have to keep it at $100, and pay more tax to the ATO. The moment you start making more than the GST threshold, the government just taxes you 10% more. They just want you to think that the consumer is paying it, when its actually just coming out of your profit like any other tax.
@splint3048
@splint3048 2 жыл бұрын
You could also argue that the businesses which fall short of the GST threshold are getting a free ride and have an unfair advantage while they grow their business. Of course you could get better sales volumes if you dropped the tax and made your products more affordable but it take a lot of money to run the country and they have to raise the money somehow. If you did drop GST on sales they would just increase taxes in other areas to compensate, so really you're robbing Peter to Pay Paul.

not quite , if i am a business and I register for GST that means I can claim the GST on all my input costs and receive that credit , if I'm a lawn mower man operating under the threshold I can't get a credit for the GST on my expenses, so in theory my margin is 10% worse so I need to raise my price , so net - net the cost would be the same to end consumer

hello, my business had to pay a "subscription fee with 10% GST included" to Shopify earlier (when it was NOT GST-registered). This transaction was reconciled as "BAS excluded" in Xero. After registering for GST, the company ABN is provided to Shopify. Since then, the Shopify bill no longer charges the 10% GST. So now, the subscription fee paid to Shopify should be reconciled as "GST Free Expenses"? thanks in advance :)
@F14-talktomegoose
@F14-talktomegoose Жыл бұрын
I don't understand why Shopify isn't charging the GST just because you are now registered for GST . They should be charging GST irrespective of your structure , the only thing that changes is if you now claim a GST credit since you are now registered .
