Might be interesting to take material from this piece and try to depict the horrors of war with it.

What kind of piano could this be? It sounds so grand, might be Steinway I’m not too sure, but it sounds so powerful.

They get better (or maybe you just get into them?). LOVE no. 8; a riot! (cf. Waltz by Arthur Lourié) And no. 9; sumptuous! Truly awesome pianism! Thanks for posting.

This is actually my transcription from around 20 years ago! It got copied into a book by an Australian guy, Jonathan Gemmil, a while back, crazy how it shows up in strange places after all these years. He put several of my transcriptions into his book (mistakes and all, haha). Nice job playing by Victor

Rumor it was this piece - along with The Nutcracker - that we purchased the celesta for. He ended up literally hating this piece and destroyed the original score. The piece was reconstructed from the orchestra parts.

I've heard that Diagilev staged a ballet on this music, and R.-K.'s widow sued him for distortion of the composer's idea . Like Christian Orthodoxes , Russian composers couldn't stand any modern interpretation of their works ( only strict following by the score ).

The section from 5.04 to 8.45 was used as the theme music for the Emmy-winning Thames Television production of 'The Belle of Amherst', a one-woman play by William Luce, starring the incredible Claire Bloom as poet Emily Dickinson.
