Open carports are the prime targets of the many arsonists active in L.A. county. If one vehicle ignites, the whole carport and any auxiliary parking goes up in flames. The "Encino Arsonist" was recently arrested after three or four fires were set in just a few days. Perhaps a dozen cars were destroyed. Only fully gated parking is safe.

History AND architecture? Yeah, you get a sub. I've also never wanted to live in L.A. before, but now it's slightly more tempting 🤯

Im in Sacramento valley and lived in one of these as my first apartment in 2012. Yes, they suck but theyre dirt cheap. Garages underneath are loud, you can hear your neighbors everytime they open theirs. Scorching hot during summertime, no central air. Neighbors smoked and it would come in our apartment every time.

Parking needs to be a priority in southern California. No matter how people try to eliminate "ICE". The average household has multiple vehicles and street parking is hoarded by those with free time. Public transportation will never reach the locations needed or wanted by the average person.

I think all housing should have sufficient off road parking.

Probably all of those will be taken out with the La puente fault, Inglewood vault, San Andreas fault, or any fault capable of a large quake. It will be like Meadows apartments in the Northridge quake just on more of a severe scale.

Funny how the carports are so small considering cars back then we're twice the size as cars are now.

I adore bungalow corts but I never knew they had a name. In the short comedies by Hal Roach, like Laurel and Hardy and the Our Gang comedies, you see a fair amount of the stories taking place in those, then brand new, bungalow housing areas. I may be wrong, but it seems to me the famous (more accurately, infamous) staircase in the Laurel and Hardy piano delivery short was alongside what were hillside bungalows.....I'll have to watch it again..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5jUiYmbfrWGsKMsi=MuKJbm6HKQG2HJPi I believe the Dude lives in a bungalow apartment court as well, with his dancing landlord.... California's constant changing of regulations and creating new building laws and requirements are just a case of the politicians trying to help the types of builders who want to make more money or, in the case of cars, the automakers and dealerships obviously wanted to make it possible for people to own more and more cars, which is one of the reasons Los Angeles is so choked up today and why no one seems to care once they made their money. Similar to the dismantling of the streetcar system in order to replace them with buses which could help the car and tire manufacturers as well....everyone makes money and all are happy except the people who must use them.

The collapsed building with Cadillac bookends … my brother in law and I toured the earthquake damaged buildings the morning of I have a picture of that same building… brought back memories…. I personally built my 2 story house in 89 and I happily watched it rock back and forth like a swaying tree that morning strong built .

I live in one in Santa Monica. 8 units. Crappy construction, made worse by noticible termite damage and landlord's hesitation at making improvements. Ugly kitchen cabinets and vinyl kitchen floor. One end unit has a private patio. One idiot tenant runs a daycare out of one of the units, and expects everyone to be OK with the noise, we're not. Has anyone ever had a neighbor who's every heavy footfall isn't just audible, but can also be felt? LMK

I lived in a bungalow court in San Diego, 3730 park Blvd. I loved it. I only paid $1,000 a month back then. This was in 2009-2010. It was only 500 sq ft. A mini house. Built in the early 20s. The heater was under the floor. The kitchen sink was huge, restaurant style. The dining table seats were built in and would open for storage. I even had built in shelving, in the living room, with glass doors, where I showcased my collection of figurines and ceramics. It was a dream. Now they are charging an arm and a leg for it. 🌺❤️

1) Is affordable housing actually affordable housing if only a select few people can affordable housing, and live in affordable housing? 2)One of the worst things about living in the US for me is one day coming home after work, and finding the place I was living in is no longer there. Maybe it became a parking lot. No one warned me it had happened. But that would never happen in the US?

Electric Car Battery fires, are the current & future danger. Better ground floor carport fire prevention or retractable track rails to pull out electric vehicles if a fire does happen. As I did hear that a modern electric car is about 2 tons in weight and the car can't be put out straight away. It is allowed to burn itself out.
