That kid on the left does not know how to spar, he was using a lot more power than speed. Idk why he’s competing but whatever

Nice routine, but why is the staff referred to as a “bo” if this is a wushu (i.e. Chinese martial arts) event? The style of staff work also looks different from authentic wushu. Is this more of an open / all-styles-welcome event?

Yes we compete in the open martial arts competition of the wushu. There are many styles represented here in this event.

I trained in karate in NYC in the late 1980s. We didn't use pads (that came into use much later) and getting a bloody nose happened once in a while. Parents were also not looking at these schools (dojos) as alternative day care but as places where their children learn to fight (yes, actually fight) and toughen up. The dojos were highly structured, and discipline was very important. Times have made many of these places soft (but not all... Kyokushin Kai was and still is pretty much the same hard-core place as far as karate goes).

Let em thump for a while. Thats not getting anything done. And stop giving out rank to kids and future diabetes patients.

Just let them spar, set a time. This point and stopping isnt practical. If they had to defend themselves outside the gym, they will not know how to handle it.
