hey great video and insight on the bandoneon and the accordians , but if you could please adjust sound levels for the stark difference in your faint spoken and the sharp loudness of the beautiful instrument i find it very hard to listen to without having to adjust the volume by large intervals everytime you go back and forth. would be a lot more enjoyable and bring bigger crowds to your channel. just look at the wave spectrum and make sure that both your voice and the instrument register around the same amount. thanks a lot !

Thank you for the comment - I should probably use an additional vocal mic in future videos

Wish your voice had been better amplified...like the two instruments you were giving such splendid instructions on and about. I will always choose the Bandoneon over the Accordion. It strikes a much more soulful sonorous sound that moves me to my very core. More grounded, authenticity takes hold of the notes... especially those composed by Bach.

thanks for the clear and nice explanation about differences between accordion and bandoneon. I am a fan of bandoneon but never tried to play one because of the special button configuration… Still playing an keyboard chromatic model…

Hilarious comment about the kid with a harmonica. I once gave a class of first graders a new harmonica each. They weren’t allowed to blow until everyone had there’s ready. What a fun cacophony!

Hi, I am a tango dancer and I would love to hear you explore the band and they own more by playing pugliese and really showing the hits! Thanks!

Thank you. That was illuminating. Does the European version made for chromatic accordion players sound the same. I’m guessing it is the same note in out, and that in itself would affect the phrasing. Or is it just as good?
@julianrowlands8 ай бұрын
The chromatic bandoneon (Peguri system and others) sounds pretty similar to the tango. As a tango player I can hear differences but they are very subtle - some notes have a different resonance because the reed is in a different location in the instrument; it can sound smoother.

As an accordion player i found this somewhat enlightening. Just on the fly you explain the different accordion layouts and types, as if there was nothing to it. Very well explained and demonstrated, thank you very much!

which mics are those that you used for recording the bandoneon?
@julianrowlands Жыл бұрын
The microphones on that recording were AKG C12, we were very fortunate that the studio had a pair of those classic mics in good order and the engineer was passionate about using them. My other favourite mic would be the U47, been fortunate to have been recorded on U47 at Abbey Road and I adore that sound but of course you have to have a well maintained example properly set up. At home I have a pair of Microphone Parts Mp47 fet mics which use their K47 capsules that attempt to recreate that sort of technology.

@@julianrowlands thank you for this info, been getting more into argentine tango lately; love the music.. it's a new discovery. Wondering if a pair of KM184's would be good on the instrument or the warm audios versions WA47's for the home recording. I'm very interested in obtaining a bandoneon to learn to play and write with it, but can't seem to find any places here in los angeles, CA.. I've been listening to this video every day since I found your channel. Your performance is amazing and the group plays so well! Cheers.

@@minutemaid123 I tried KM184s and I wasn't so convinced. The warm audio would be worth trying. In terms of finding an instrument, I would always recommend getting in touch with any professional players in your area. Most of the playable instruments are sold from player to player, there isn't much of a retail market outside Buenos Aires.

Super video! 🎉. I play the classical guitar and my favorite genre is the modern South American stuff. The bandoneon caught my interest at first with its seemingly random button arrangement. I worked in a music store as a technician for a number of years, and frequently we staff members engaged in discussions about each-other’s instruments and their peculiarities. We had players of everything from accordions to xylophones so this excellent video filled a gap for me.😊❤ I subscribed and I look forward to more of your excellent presentations.

The bandoneon seems more "expressive" (for the want of a better description) to my ears. I am no musician but even I had noted the percussive nature of the instrument in the hands of the player(s) on a Japanese pressing of a Roberto Pansera /"La Cumparsita" LP (1972) which I recently got for just AUD5 in excellent condition. The sleeve notes are in Japanese so I have no idea of who plays what. LP Thank you very much!

Grazie per il video interessantissimo, ma vorrei sapere ancora quali difficoltà differenti presentano questi due strumenti e di conseguenza qual'è la maggiore soddisfazione nel suonarli. Ed ancora, se lei ha una preferenza tra i due. Grazie
@julianrowlands Жыл бұрын
I think the different difficulties really depend on what music you are playing, and I have a video coming soon about this! Bandoneon is my first instrument (actually my 4th, as I learnt piano, violin and viola first, but now it is my main one). So I suppose I prefer bandoneon, but when I am playing another instrument that becomes my favourite!

Can anyone recommend a reputable place to purchase a bandoneon?
@julianrowlands2 жыл бұрын
This is a very good question - in fact I've been meaning to do a video about buying bandoneons. If you want to get an old one, my recommendation would be to buy from a player as the instrument is more likely to be maintained in playing condition. New instruments can be bought direct from the manufacturer - in Europe, Hartenhauer, Geuns, Bandoneonfabrik, and in Argentina, Fischer and Estol among others. I've put some links here www.bandoneon.co.uk/links

By the way there are accorrdions that mount their reeds on a zinc plate. Theyre called Bayons Pigini offeres bayons Showing an accordion wooden reed block would help Also he should talk about diatonic and Bisonic types
@johnferrara16382 жыл бұрын
He should have covered the different note configuration from left hand and right hand Showing a score of left hand notes compared to right hand notes would be revealing The bandoneon is more like a piano layout The accordion is usually a stradella layout
