I must say this is the best tutorial on PromQL I have come across yet! You provide a schema for PromQL that allows me to make sense of the PromQL docs which do such a poor job of explaining the different types of vectors and how that relates to the different types of metrics and functions. Thanks for the brilliant video!

Hi @isitobservable, We have an application build in react.JS and we have got a new project to know the telemetry of the website like which feature is having more clicks, mobile or web or ipad is used more and many more. We need to save these details to backend and access using jeager and APM. I am new to this so I don’t know how to implement this. I have created a js file in my application and have used node collector to so I can now see the details on console of bowser. I don’t know how to proceed further and also what is the better architecture to implement my requirement.

Nice work, these comparisons are interesting, but after hearing that Vector doesn't support exporting in OTLP, I stopped being interested in the rest. OpenTelemetry is the standard in our observability pipelines it is very clear: OTLP everywhere and we do not adopt any technology other than the industry-agnostic standard. What we miss is a good open-source observability backend that allows us to see everything in one place without having to jump between applications: Traces, Logs and Metrics. We currently use otel-collector to send to Data-Prepper to ingest in OpenSearch and use their Observability plugin. The support for viewing Traces and logs is reasonable, but the Metrics support is very poor, so we only have a few gauges on the dashboard but the rest we keep in Prometheus+Grafana. We've already tested SigNoz, that's a nice idea, but it's still far from being tailored for production. Therefore, here is a challenge: making videos of observability backends and comparisons.

Great video! Could you talk sometime about vector and openobserve? I'm working with go and k8s and I'm looking forward adding a minimal observability stack.From what you say in this video, it seems like I may be able to do with just the otel-collector, prometheus for short term metric collection and openobserve for long term and dashboards. Thank you!
@alexanderyakovlev63522 ай бұрын
+1 vector. In my research for our use-cases, otel-collector can't work efficiently with datadog metrics and as the author mentioned for logs. So we choose vector to cover logs + metrics part.

Do we need prometheus installed if we use TA mechanism? All we need is TA collector, grafana, isnt it? How to use Grafana for data visualization without prometheus installed in cluster?

I have seen this interview very carefully. In my note, to drill down into specific item: I think you have made a super interesting question about the soon to be code debug feature release. Were you asking to Yarden if from that feature you would have been able to extract specific values (variables) only visible from the code itself to later transform it in a metric? If this was the case not only you made a very good question but such a feature could be considered a killer one - if you consider that today when you make a request attribute extracted from code classes you need to have some knowledge in advance, most probably shared by somebody who really knows the code for you.

Hi sir, it is possible to export open telemetry + springboot application logs, metrics, traces to elasticsearch DB without using docker, other observibility backends like jaeger, promethues , Elastic APM etc. only i need to use elasticsearch server (port - 9200) and need to export to elk db through command line.
