Does it seem to change after it warms up a little? Some screens on my other machines get brighter after they warm up a little.

It really depends. If I forget to close my closet doors and it triggers on every time I walk in the room it will need charged more often, but if I keep the closet door closed and only open it when I getting something I get a good 2-3 months out of it. It also depends on what settings you have the lights set to, being that I need good light for my closet I want the brightest light. I hope this helps.

I heard about it a couple of years ago and honestly I thought it was a dumb idea until I saw how people was using it to put their binding on, however when I tried it, my results were less than great. I sew my binding to the front side and hand stitch it to the back, but I thought why not give it a try. Anyway I sewed the binding on using the fusible thread in the bobbin, did great, but when I went to press the other side down to get it to fuse so that I could machine sew it, the fusible thread melted which caused my binding to come loose from the quilt. I'm wondering if it might be better in a serger in the bottom looper with having 3 other threads to help secure it to the quilt. In the meantime, this was a quick and easy solution.

Now there you go. I hadn't thought about that. Unfortunately it's not permanent, but it would hold it in place enough to go back over it. Thanks for the useful idea.

Oh, that would kill me to have a sewing machine in a box not being used. lol. Remember it's a machine, you're the boss. It's there to help you. If something goes wrong, so through your steps before panicking. Check that you have good quality thread, the thread is going through the correct path, the needle is in good shape (even a new one can be bent), not dull, check that your bobbin is wound properly; you don't want a cone shape wind or a spongy bobbin, it's needs to have some tension on it and super important no lint build up underneath. 9 times out of 10 one of those items will remedy most issues. Just spend some time getting to know your machine and enjoy it. There are a lot of videos out there to help you get the most out of sewing. It's my happy place. I drive a school bus in my grown up job lol, and this is my unstress therapy.

Vinyl as in iron on vinyl like what you would use in a Cricut? If so, that's what it melted.

I paid about $85 for mine at the Paducah quilt show, but on their website (linked in the description) it says $99 with free shipping currently. You can buy an extra adapter to use on other sewing machines so that you don't have to buy a laser for every machine if you have more than one. I've tried using the 1/4" feet with the little flange on the side, but when you're jumping between sewing along the edges of something and sewing down the middle like a half square triangle it' can get caught on the fabric. I've also tried to diy a laser line light that I got from a tool store with no success. It was worth it to me to not have to mark hundreds of quilt pieces. I'd rather be creating than drawing lines on a piece of fabric over and over again.

You are very welcome. I figured that I couldn't be the only person that was having a problem with it and those screws are kind of hidden.

None of my machines tell me what foot that I have on. They will tell me what foot that I should be using. with the icon of the foot on the screen. The expensive machines may have that capability, but your looking at thousands of dollars for one of those. Of course they offer more features.

It's a nice machine especially for the price.

Can you be more specific to what's happening? Is the thread getting tangled halfway through, is the machine simply stopping? Also how are stabilizing your project, what stablizer(s) are you using, what kind of needle are you using and fabric type are you trying to embroider? I used "embroidery" needles. I'm a fan of Schmetz needles. I usually stabilize both the top and bottom. Stretchy stuff typically will take a different stablizer that less stretchy fabrics. T-shirt fabric can be temperamental if not using the right stablizer. If you give me some more details maybe I can help or someone else on here can offer some advice. I know how frustrating it is. It happens on my embroidery machines that cost thousands.

@@elimitchell6147 My check list would include numerous things as any one thing can cause this and most I know you've already checked. Good quality thread (no such thing a bargain thread, it's pieced together). Check thread flows freely, from the cone/spool through the needle. With no catching points, check needle, not bent, even a new one can have a slight bend. no burrs on the needle, needle plate or bobbin. Run your finger around the bobbin case and make sure it's completely smooth run a thread string through the needle hole of the needle plate and see if you feel any catching. An emery board will fix it. If that's all okay, make sure that your density of stitching isn't too thick and adjust as needed. You may also want to try a thread conditioner like Drtiz Sewer's Aid or mineral oil. You put a little on the spool in a spiral or diagonal line, just a little. It lubricates the thread and strengthens it and guides. Try a different stabilizer. I have even used press and seal plastic wrap on the top in a pinch and a iron on or tear away on the back. Also check the needle size and type of needle. Like i said I use embroidery needles, in fact I used them for my general sewing. If not using the same thread in the bobbin as the top try using a bobbin thread, which is lighter weight. I almost always use a bobbin thread with great results, not bobbin thread showing on the top. With this all in mind I have not used the embroidery attachment to this machine as I already own two other embroidery machines capable of much bigger embroidery designs. However you have peaked my interest in trying it.

Check the bobbin case itself, run your finger around the edges to see if there are any burrs. Check that it's not warped. Sometimes when winding plastic bobbins too much thread on it can warp the bobbin. Never use bargain thread it's made with left over bits and pieces and pieced together which causes all kinds of issues. If it's happening during embroidery, what kind of stabilizer are you using? I had that happen once when I used an iron on stabilizer that had a thick adhesive. Finally what needle are you using? I use Schmetz embroidery needles, in fact I use them for almost all my general sewing because they're made for high speed sewing and the friction that can fray thread with universal needles. Keep me updated.

How thick? I wouldn't be concerned about denim, canvas, duck cloth, most upholstery and like fabrics. If I was going to sew something heavier I would use an older all metal gears and mechanisms in it or an industrial machine. These machines are sometimes used for quilting which involves 2 layers of fabric with seams and batting. If in doubt put the fabric under the presser foot and turn the hand wheel manually and see if the needle goes through effortlessly. If it's difficult I would avoid sewing that fabric with that machine.

Years ago I purchased a Brother machine from Walmart and HATED it, but I was so surprised at how well this one does. It even has a low bobbin indicator which I didn't realize until I got a low bobbin warning at the retreat which is always a nice feature. I still believe that a dealer will have the best quality, but for the money this machine exceeded my expectations. If not I wouldn't have thought it was worth making a video about it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

If I lost my ability to make stuff, especially quiltmaking and quilting I'd probably die. It's so much a part of who I am.

I would never use ugly or inferior fabic in a quilt that I make for charity. My name goes on it and I want to present my best. However sometimes I'll use a fabric on the back that I wouldn't particularly use on the front as long as it's good fabric and matches. In my opinion this particular fabric would be cute on that back of an Easter quilt, a quilt with rabbits or a sundress for a little girl.

You're welcome. I live a very long way from a repair shop and taking a longarm to one is not only a lot of work but expensive. Hopefully people can see that it's not very difficult to fix it yourself.

Hello, I just measured the silicon sling and it's 7 and 3/4" from outside edge to outside edge, the wire sling is slightly smaller, so it should fit nicely inside your 8" pot. You won't have a lot of wiggle room, but you shouldn't have to squeeze it in. I absolutely love this sling for making hard boiled eggs or lifting a roast out.

What great ideas. We have several families at church who are foster parents and they've actually asked that people please not do the quilts, because during the fostering process there's so much happening that trying to keep track of quilts, not to mention many quilts show up dirty and can hold lice, bedbugs and can just be an added stress, so that's not an option for me anyway. Our church has blanket drives and blankets are given to the homeless and I've made pet beds. I'm let's say very blessed with an abundance of fabric and these are fabrics that not even my quilters friends like, but I'm finding out that through this video that there are people who like this fabric, so I may take your advice and donate it. Thanks again for all the amazing ideas. Wish all people in the world was so thoughtful.

@@tereasamarshall3038 that's is such a good insight into not making quilts for foster care, that makes perfect sense, although sad because these its seem like these precious kids need something of their own, something stable constant and only their, not used, they are in a constant state of uncertainty and instability. BUT your absolutely right bugs excess belongings to lug around ect. My church alos does the blanket drives, I love being of service doing the Lords work 🙂. I've been wanting to get into making denim quilts for the homeless, the are so warn and thick so the block out the moisture better. I'm no longer in Colorado but even here in California it's till get pretty darn cold. I truly hope my message didn't done across accusatory or meam spirited in any way, that was not my intention at all, I am probably the least judgmental person ever. @@jenifferfoster4312 It does seem like a good idea, but unfortunately some of these kids get moved from foster home to foster home or in and out of relatives and things have a way of getting lost or destroyed, one foster mom was sent children infested with lice along with their belongings. I totally agree with them needing something that's their own. Sad that so many children end up in this situation and seems to be getting worse with the drug epidemic. Just heartbreaking.

I had so much of that fabric and although I have A LOT of fabric, nothing seemed to ever go with it. It would've been a darling sun dress fabric for a little girl, but I only had boys.

Over the years I've certainly had my share of less than pretty fabric, but cutting it on the bias and using it can give it a whole new design aspect.

You're not too picky. I expect something better from a more expensive product. You know the saying you get what you pay for? Well apparently that doesn't apply irons. My cheap Sunbeam iron never stopped working, the only reason I replaced it was because the plastic foot base got broken when the ironing board got bumped and it fell, wouldn't stand up without falling over after that, Since then I've been through 2 Sharks (both leaked) and a Rowenta, I'm praying this Oliso makes me not regret buying it. The only reason that I bought it was because I'm a quilt maker and long arm quilter and the 30 minute shut off is huge when piecing and the long cord is an added benefit. Honestly the Rowenta was the smoothest iron that I'd ever used and the steam, omgosh! but what good is an iron that gushes hot water out around the cord? Sure I can use it dry, but then I'm right back to why pay that much for a product that you can't utilize its features? It seems to me that Rowenta would care about their customers safety, scalding hot water burning people and water gushing out around an electrical cord...not good.

@@isaysewquilting1796 I am also a quilter, so I totally understand your dilemma. One of my guild members only buys irons from second hand stores because of the whole shut-off thing. And if I am being completely honest, the Beautural is already starting to bug me because it shuts off too quickly, BUT at least it beeps to tell me it is going to shut off. I guess that is an improvement! So far, for my $30 investment, I like it, other than the shut-off thing. It is heavy (love) and gets very hot (love) and has steam control (LOVE). The beeping may make me crazy. This is my forth iron in two years. I've brought a few very expensive ones and finally this inexpensive one. The Oliso is the only one that actually ruined a quilt top, but it could have been a defective one. The company did promise to replace it, but never followed through even after numerous contact. Just be mindful that this may happen.

My Oliso, my 3rd one, the steam button sticks. The second one was returned after 6 months due to the steam button stuck. The 1st one I had eventually didn't get hot enough. Every Rowenta I had spit water. None of these irons get hot enough. I had a weird brand one that got hot but it was faulty and tripped my circuit breaker.

I actually used a coupon and got a big discount from Joann.com. The list price for the fabric edition version of the Sizzix Big Shot Plus was $199.00, I gave $139.00 for mine and free shipping. I have to tell you that although I am a quilter I would not have purchased the fabric version one because you don't get the platform with it and you only get the round bigz die and 2 cutting plates. I would buy the regular version which comes with the platform and purchase the dies I would actually use. Sizzix often runs sales on their dies. Long story short I ended up spending extra to buy the platform so that I would have the ability to used non bigz dies and do paper crafting/card making.
