During most of these iMac SSD and/or CPU upgrades, it not mentioned about replacing the clock battery while access is available during the motherboard removal. It's only a $5 or less cost for a CR2032 battery and they are normally only a 5 year shelf life on your motherboard, so replace it while you have access to it!

I have a problem with an iMac 2017, I already did everything and I can't find the solution, at first it detected the ssd with the adapter, I have a crucial 1 TB P3, I connect it to the motherboard and when I put the bootable usb with MacOs Ventura does not recognize it internally, if that same ssd I put it externally if the iMac recognizes it, I do the format externally and at the moment of putting it internally it it does not recognize it. I already installed the macOS Ventura by external means and I put it internally and it doesn't recognize it either, I don't know what to do I've been testing for a month and I have to be assembling and disassembling the iMac, I hope someone can help me, The disk utility does not recognize it, I already made the list disk and nothing does not appear the ssd m.2 nvme, I am totally blocked, do I need to do it with high sierra and then update to Ventura?

Hi, I have seen your KZbin Video for changing the CPU for your iMac and it is really impressive and has really helped me. So I just wanted to take your advice: I have an Apple iMac late 2017 27” intel i5 7th Gen 3.4 GHz Quad Core so could you please help me know how much I can upgrade the CPU like you’ve done. E.g. since we have i5 7th gen, what is the latest gen we can upgrade it to, to make it the most fast. Thanks a lot.

To anyone trying to figure out whether you can add an internal sdd or hdd to one of the high-end 27" Retina iMacs that were sold with NVME drives: Yes you can, HOWEVER, you must purchase a sata cable, (although there is a different ref#, the ones used in any iMac (part # 923-0312) will do), as they ones sold using nvme drives do not come with this cable. Nor do they come with the hard drive brackets - which wouldn't matter if you are using an ssd drive, but would if you are using a hdd. In cases where the drive is present, then you are in luck and will only have to remove the screen and a couple of the screws to do the swap, but in most cases, where the cable is not present, you will have to remove everything to get to the motherboard in order to access the sata port and power port on the other side of the board- which I'd advise to do anyway since it is a prime opportunity to swap out the NVME drive for something larger and faster AND DO NOT FORGET to get an Sintech NGFF M.2 NVME drive adapter for this. They are easily obtained and very inexpensive. Be sure to get a heatsink as well for better drive cooling - especially if the nvme is going to be your only drive.

Pardon my ignorance, but I have a question. I have the iMac 18,3 (late 2017, 2TB Fusion drive) and I was going to order the OWC hard drive upgrade kit for the 4TB SSD, but then I came across your video here, as well as a comprehensive upgrade with CPU, RAM, and SSD. My question is: how does this NVMe upgrade work in conjunction with the SSD upgrade? I see that you put in this 1TB NVMe drive, but you also swapped in a 1TB WD SSD into the old HDD spot. Does the system treat these as 1 drive for a total of 2TB? I am specifically looking to add some space because I backup my iPhone to my iMac and I am approaching 1.5TB stored. I was going to add the 4TB SSD from OWC, but it would be cheaper to put in a 2TB model of this NVMe plus a 2TB version of the WD SSD you link. Will that combine for 4TB of storage? Again, pardon the ignorance, but I don't understand how the NVMe drive and SSD are handled by the system.
@beau6113
@beau6113 Жыл бұрын
Also--will the system remain compatible/capable of booting into bootcamp? The OWC website has a NVMe drive kit, but it specifically says it will no longer be compatible with bootcamp...

I did only the easy HDD to SSD swap on my 2017 iMac and the performance improvement is huge. I have seen several vids showing replacement of the NVMe SSD and have wondered what the benefit is. Isn’t it already reasonably fast? If storage space is an issue, can’t that be solved with a bigger 2.5” SSD?
@jani0077
@jani0077 Жыл бұрын
the speeds don't matter for most users, but if one is doing video editing or post-processing or anything that takes up a lot of storage space NVMe speeds can reduce time 3-4x (I usually export large studio sessions and on a mac pro we use pcie nvme drives, which cut our export times from 30 minutes to like 5 just by swapping out the sata ssd drives)

@@3eyeWatchingyou hv a point, I hv it thinking it’s gonna at least get me started but it’s trash. Keys are too small, and I sounds awful(more like a toy than a keyboard), it’s hella light and a fall will easily crack it open, the it has a record and play option that is TRASH it records the keys you press but if you had sustain on it’s doesn’t even hv effect in the recording. The mic doesn’t work tht they give as well. You can connect a headset to it but sounds horrible with headsets even unlistenable. Buy at your own discretion, it’s only like $20 but if you want a good beginners experience but the psr-273 or sum better.
@nevermind4328
@nevermind4328 10 ай бұрын
@@TellMeMoreAbtForexIt's what you'd expect for the price. PSRs were always good, I have one from the '80s (a small keys Portasound), had one from the '90s and recently tried out a 373 which is mindblowing. But in my country at this moment I have to suggest a cheap keyboard to someone who doesn't even know if will keep continue playing and while PSR series were always good as I said before and that was my first recommendation, considering all things this might be a better option for start practicing mechanics. Of course it won't be even close to a modern PSR and the 373 costs ten times more for something that might end up gathering dust. You get what you pay for and yes, for a trained ear this might sound like shit, but for somebody starting and possibly not continuing it's a good choice. It has a simple, cheap DSP, you can't expect much from it, but if it didn't get you through the basics it was your fault, not the instrument's.
