I don't understand how you know what chords to play, the first tob was a G chord? How so lol 😅? Thanks
@guitar.forbeginners.withdave2 күн бұрын
It's quite tricky at first but once you can wrap your head around the fact that the Low E string is the bottom line that's a good start. Basically the numbers represent the frets your fingers need to press down on. The thing about tab is that it doesn't tell "what" fingers to use, unlike chord diagrams. But with a bit of time they get easier to use.

Thanks so much for subscribing, much appreciated. Barre chords seem to be every learner's nemesis but they're not impossible. They just take a bit of time, patience and a hell of a lot of persistance! I've got a playlist of lessons related to barre chords here: kzbin.info/aero/PLeaRVM-30iorb5dSug88Lm281LuLEZCfu Take it slow and steady with those chords but if you keep on keeping on, you will eventually get it. Let me know how you get on and thanks for watching and taking some time to comment.

Why for F chord start from d string ? What if hold bar chord of F we should start in d string
@guitar.forbeginners.withdave2 күн бұрын
Good question! The version of "F" I'm using is an easier version and also works better for this type of playing. The barre chord can be a little difficult for starter guitarists and also doesn't give the right sound for this type of technique. Have you been playing long? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Great video! Very helpful and this is exactly where I am in my learning. Your tip about finding a song is a great idea. And to compliment it, Chordify now has a feature where you put in the chords you want to practice, and it will find songs that use those chords! Your video was also very encouraging because as a beginner you wonder if you will ever get it, but when we see that it comes with focused practice over a period of time, you believe that you can do it! Thanks for the helpful video!

What about your nails please tell me same as mine I have problem with finger stails thanks
@guitar.forbeginners.withdave4 күн бұрын
HI there. I'm not sure what you want to know about my nails and which hand are you talking about, my right or left hand? In general on my fretting hand I try to keep my nails as short as possible because if they are too long they often dig into the fretboard and that feels very uncomfortable hand. On my right hand, my picking/strumming hand, I keep them slightly longer as I enjoy playing fingerstyle a lot. Hope this is helpful. Have you been playing long?

Thanks for replying. Actually, I'm a beginner and learning to play guitar on my own. I would also like to sing along. I prefer feel-good songs, especially country rock & Gospel songs . Tom Petty's songs are really cool to learn..
@guitar.forbeginners.withdave4 күн бұрын
Took me a few years to learn how to sing in tune and keep it in tune all the way through. Just sing along as you're practising. I used to write out the chords to songs on a big piece of paper so that I could follow them and sing at the same time. I like Tom Petty too, I think I might do another one of his songs. Thanks for watching. Let me know how you get on!

Many thanks for yours videos they are a great help. I am struggling with the D to C chord change. Changing it on time. Is there any advice you could possibly give Dave. Much appreciated Regards Brian
@guitar.forbeginners.withdave9 күн бұрын
D to C is a little tricky as there isn't an "anchor" finger or any fingers in common to the two chords so all the finger have to move. Two possibilities. You can use your third finger as a guiding finger because it's on the third fret for the D chord and also for the C chord. Try to lift it up a little, then move it across and put that down first and put the rest of the chord down, whether you're going from the C to D or D to C. It's possible to do the same but using the 2nd finger as it's on the 2nd fret for both chords but I think going from D to C that's a little harder. I hope this helps a little but whatever you do, keep at it. It will come together with time. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
@lisasivertsen466911 күн бұрын
I have always struggled with the F chord is there a easier way to play this chord?
@guitar.forbeginners.withdave11 күн бұрын
There are other ways of playing it. You could try the mini barre on the high E and B strings and the 2nd finger on the 2nd fret of B string only. Or 1st finger on 1st fret of B string. 2nd on 2nd fret of G string and third on third fret of D string, so you're not doing the little barre with the first finger. But make sure the open high e string (1st string) is not ringing out as that's a different chord (an F major 7th which is slightly jazzy). Having said all that, I really would persevere with the version in the video. It is tricky but with time and practice you'll get it. Hope this helps a little.

Hi Dave...I find this harder than fingerpicking. Rhythm is a big problem...(just trying to sound half decent). I did come across some info on the up strum, you only need to hit 2/3 strings. Anyway...back to it. Cheers from Australia.
@guitar.forbeginners.withdave15 күн бұрын
Hi Norman, how are you going? Have you been playing long? It does take a bit of time to get used to strumming. Not only do you have to worry about your strumming hand but also changing chords and getting both hands to work together can be tough. But not impossible. Give it some time and patience and you'll get the hang of it for sure. I've got another strumming video you might like. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGOkknyql8usaZY Let me know how you get on and thanks for watching and taking some time to comment.
