Great vid: few questions re your warranty: 1. how much did it cost for the 3 year extended warranty 2. as it is 3rd party warranty company (i.e. not BMW warranty), do they pay for genuine BMW parts to be installed (if yes, what's the difference between this warranty and BMW warranty)? Thank you in advance!
@RichT533 күн бұрын
HI there, glad you liked the video 🙂 I took the warranty out with a private company called Opteven UK. They were fantastic when the rear diff needed to be replaced. It was replaced with a genuine BMW part with a total cost over £4.5k. Not sure about the difference versus a BMW warranty but the coverage was for 3 years with a max single claim of £5k. Hope that helps, Rich

👍 Hello from Sweden. Amazing machine! Enough power to use on the street (after a stage one tune). 😉 I have done allot to my 718 Cayman S manual who i bought new 2017. @RichT53 I did the BSR stage one tune 2019 accidentally 🙃... I was making the order for 718 Spyder and the Porsche dealer promised, promised and promised a car to me the same year. When that didn't happen I decided to keep the 718 CS and did a tune. 400hp/529Nm and 1380kg. Now the car is a little rocket. 0-100km/h consistently 3,6-3,8s gps speed. 😀 2020 i did the Porsche original short shift kit. Last year I modified the original exhaust system (sounds more like a 997/911 turbo and less like a Subaru now). Also a big rear diffuser, duck tail and wheel spacers. Now I am going to keep this car for a very long time.

I changed my fuel filter with the tank mounted in the car. I have owned four R53’s - rehabbed five - and this was the least fun job I did on the cars. Smelly, dirty, you get a bit of a contact “high” from the fumes… I broke an electrical connection the last time I did the service on my current R53. Was able to fix it but it was touch and go… One note of suggestion. I added a sticker to the access panel of my fuel filter. The sticker notes the date and the miles on the car of the last filter change. It is also noted in my service spreadsheet but nice to give the next person the info to decide to push forward or skip the service based on miles. The original filter was black - the car had 42,000 miles on it when I got it in October of 2020. I, like RichT, went through the car backwards and forwards replacing stuff to make the car new again. And doing every maintenance items I could think of… all fluids. Changed the OEM brake-lines for stainless steel braided along with new pads and Cryo treated rotors. All ball joints, swapped out bushing for PowerFlex poly bushings. Love my slicktop Mini R53.

What I did with my R53 fuel filter was to add a small piece of masking tape under the seat on the fuel filter access plate. On the tap I added the service date and miles the filter was changed. This could help the next person who owns the car. No plans on selling but would be helpful for the next person. I also have an extensive spreadsheet going on all maintenance on each of my cars. I have done the fuel filter service twice on R53’s both with the fuel tank installed. one of my least favorite jobs. I have owned four R53’s since 2018. Three 2006 and a 2003. My current is a late model build Astro Black Slicktop with now 50,000 miles. My first was a Hyper Blue with a white slicktop which the original owner installed a Scottish flag on the top.

Hi there, Great idea- I'll definitely do that, thanks. Sounds like you are a true Mini enthusiast :)
@billcunningham84856 ай бұрын
@@RichT53 owned four and have rehabbed five R53’s. My humble advice… power steering pump, double check the lines for leaks, make sure the PS pump cooling fan works and isn’t crunchy when you manually turn the blades. I had a PS pump explode on my first Mini and it took the car out. Burned on the side of the highway… fire started with me in the car. Another thing to consider (if you have not already done so) is swapping out the crank pulley for a fluid filled harmonic balancer. It is a weak point in the R53 as the OEM is rubber mounted and with heat and time the rubber breaks down. When the crank pulley goes it can cause all sorts of problems. Supercharger… service it. Mini says 100,000 miles for the service. However it is one of the more expensive parts to replace on the car so why not just go ahead and service it early? Yes it takes time and a few parts but for about $50US you can have peace of mind that that service is complete. Also change the crank position sensor o-ring while you are in there. They all weep oil. The o-ring is less than $1US. Lots of R53 owners think that the oil is a bad pan gasket when in fact it is the crank position sensor o-ring… hard to get to but if you do the Supercharger service it is right there and easy to access. Clean the engine while you have the access as well.

I'm glad it isn't just me, my heart sank when i got under my 2008 mini clubman, hats off to BMW for helping the government get cars of the road, and helping the environment by making a car that is biodegradable i,ve never seen cars like this since the 70's and eighties , do you think they had a word with BMC about how to go about launching the mini , and also ask them about the composition of how the metals are mixed, i,ve heard of a authentic reproduction, but to remake the car that rots as well as it,s predecessor, that takes the biscuit, i thought this kind of rust was a thing of the past until i bought the mini, it has more rust than the TITANIC ,😒😒😒
