Battletech has a meta playstyle though. 2 front line Bruisers, 1 LRM Boat and 1 high mobility "finisher" mech. Rotate the front line guys in and have them take and give aggro. Have the LRM mech try to trigger a stability crisis for an enemy mech to knock them over. When they get knocked down have the finisher move in and unload an alpha strike on the vulnerable target. I beat the whole game with this gimmick. This whole complicated video about visibility and risk management is more complicated than it needs to be. You just gotta make your mecha high armor in the front and sides and don't expose your back to them. Bracing a front line mech while the rest of the team focus fire an enemy mech who is out of position. You'd be surprised how much damage gets mitigated through bracing, cover and proper positioning.

I had a game with my brother end with his concession yesterday after he finally killed my Thug 11E. It died with 6 points of forward facing armor left. When he finally killed it he had destroyed its right leg, arm, torso and the center torso. My wolfhound on other hand, was spotless. Don't fall prey to the sunk cost fallacy people. More battletech please! This was a good video.

I think being in woods to get that 3rd point of cover while having it not finish off the enemy's cover might count as "don't be acquired".

Counterpoint about the "Stay out of Range", I feel like that's just the indirect-fire mechs's bread and butter.

There is also arm shielding, that is where you don't have weapons in one arm and twist that arm towards the enemy so when they return fire they hit that arm.

Isn’t this more of a mechwarrior thing than a battletech one?

@@thatoneguyyouthinkshouldbe2431 I've not played the mechwarrior games. I explained it badly. Battletech computer game is inherently a hex based game. Say the hex facing straight ahead is the enemy. If you angle so you are facing 45% to the left then your right arm is more likely to take return fire. If you are facing 45% to the right then your left arm is more likely to get hit.

@@AbbyYarra ah I just took a look at the hit location sheet and it does double the odds of hitting what ever facing your shielding on in the tabletop I never thought it would work in tabletop so I never bothered to check

@@AbbyYarra This is true for the game featured in the video as background to the narration, but the context of the video is for the tabletop game, and in the tabletop game, you can twist your torso to change your firing arcs for weapon declaration, but your actual mech's direction (the direction the feet / front face is pointed) is the direction used for attacks declared against you. In other words: if a mech is in your rear arc, you can twist all you want, but you can't stop the mech from shooting in your rear arc, and the same is true for the side arcs.

Hey, great video! The algo hit it out of the park on this suggestion. Keep at it.

With your heavy mechs, one should be using mediums and lights to screen while the heavies throw out so much firepower that return fire is nil.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. It also was a very accurate description of it on a meta/local level. I squeaked into second at the US Masters with Merkava 2's this past year. This was the write up i did for fb before watching this video just now and you hit basically all the same points: Merkava's are criminally underrated at 6/7pts, respectively. Always take the Merkava 2 if you can because BDD armour at least gives you a save against RPG's in defensive fire. The magach is awful, 11pts for 3 rof 2/1, accurate, AT19 is terrible. That gets me 4 leo1's with 2/2, laser range finder or 3 American M60's with 2/2, LRF, and AT20. Infantry are good, Jack of all trades. Big units, but a single dragon 1 and limited to AT17 rpgs hurts them. They will typically dig in and never leave though. AT 21 is expensive and limited to 4 jeeps, 2 m113, cobras, and 3 Pereh's (if you are shooting at a tank with a pereh, you are playing it wrong)
