Wasn’t sure if you were hanging a mail box or a cross arm. Handline a few feet above the work, have grunt single the hand line out with a clove hitch using the hook end around the arm on your right side of the arm and lay the hand line on the top of the cross arm securing it to the top of the arm with a shoe string knot that way when it comes up to you untie the shoe string knot and let the grunt lay it right in your lap.

We had one of those fail during our bucket truck self rescue training. Thankfully the lineman was attached to a backup line. Instructors told us it got overheated from constant use. Company ended up replacing them with something else after that.

Why not just use the manual hydraulic valves to slowly lower the boom?
@davidpactol57583 жыл бұрын
This is for an event with loss of all power including the DC pump.
@mikel95672 жыл бұрын
@@davidpactol5758 Loss of all power still allows the bucket to be lowered safely. Don't need a pump to release the pressure. Granted you will only be able to go down, no rotation. Only time a bucket egress should be attempted is if you are in an emergency situation. Loss of power doesn't constitute an emergency situation. There are very few situations where you are going to do a bailout.
@davidpactol57582 жыл бұрын
@@mikel9567 and a loss of all power is not an emergency? Sure, another bucket nearby may be used to reach the stranded bucket or a trained mechanic might disable the cylinder holding valves to lower the bucket, but this system might also be used if none of those are readily available and the operator doesn't want to wait for help to arrive or help might be a while.
@mikel95672 жыл бұрын
@@davidpactol5758 We clearly have two different thoughts on what constitutes an 'emergency'. All of our bucket trucks will lower even with a loss of power. Both from the ground controls and the bucket controls. Most buckets will do this either as standard or as an option. Our buckets you can start the truck engine and turn it off from the bucket as well. After speaking with our local power guys, they don't repel from a loss of power either. But power lineman rarely work by themselves and usually have a crew. It is pretty risky to repel out of a bucket at height for something like a loss of power with no other issues. Even though the buckets can support several hundred pounds, they aren't designed to have that weight hanging from them in most cases either.
@davidpactol57582 жыл бұрын
@mikel9567 Hmmm. How are you able to lower your booms from the upper or lower controls with a complete loss of power? As far as the weight capacity of the bucket, those emergency repelling kits are specifically designed and rated to go over the edge of the bucket. If you believe those buckets can hold up, ask a lineman how many times they've "accidentally" ran the bucket into something, and the bucket remained intact. I'm mostly curious as to how you're able to lower the boom from either the upper or lower controls during a complet loss of power.

Could also check it's okay in bucket (proper movement), before leaving bucket. And if the rope hanging down get tight you'll get hung up... Maybe show video with someone pulling on it to stop you from desending. Because if in trees and gets caught your stuck in the air mid stream. Sir. Unless been through it wouldn't know. Because we sit there like we do sometimes thinking nothings going to happen, when plan b which Arnold Schwarzenegger never used to be a good ideas..

Also we've put a 500 bug to bucket or cutters, so rope doesn't slide off side of bucket and 3 feet of drop
