Hello Reinelda, the cost of a hearing implant may be covered by insurance. Every health insurance plan is different. Coverage varies by insurance company, plan benefits, the type of hearing implant you may need and your hearing loss. Due to this information it is challenging to provide cost. Hello David! We remain committed to our earliest recipients and continue to work to make new technologies available to them. Similar to other processor launches, Nucleus 8 Sound Processor is not currently compatible with the Nucleus 22 Cochlear Implant. The timeframe for compatibility with the Nucleus 22 implant depends on research and development timelines, manufacturing processes and regulatory approvals.

The surgery to install the receiver in the head involves cutting the auditory nerve, so what remaining natural hearing remains is sacrificed for reliance on technology that is not without risk.

While it is common that some residual hearing may be lost during cochlear implant surgery, hearing preservation is an important focus at Cochlear. Advances in implant design and surgical technique allow Surgeons today to focus on maintaining the structure of the cochlea and residual hearing. The hearing nerve, however, is never intentionally severed during cochlear implant surgery.

Ive had my nucleus 8 and theres a crackling noise that gets worse with time. Ive tried changing out the mic cover and putting the processor in a dry box and it doesn’t do anything I dont hear it when it is connected through bluetooth..

As Bluetooth LE Audio compatible devices become available, a sound processor firmware update will be required with your Nucleus 8 Sound Processor to use certain features. Auracast broadcast audio capability is subject to third party adoption of the Auracast protocol as well such as in the airport or movie theater.

Every cochlear “switch on” day the audiologist all do the same dam thing… fire it up way too loud hurting the patient! How hard is it to start on a real low setting first and work your way up so you stop hurting the patient.
