Jews constituted a big % of the audience for Handel's Oratorios (apart from some of course like "Theodora" and "Messiah") and in the oratorio "Judas Maccabaeus" he actually uses Jewish music for the aria "See the Conquering Hero come." -well -Jewish inspired I mean! Concerning the oratorio "Theodora" on a Christian martyr theme - it failed to attract an audience despite being an absolute masterpiece -explanation -because the Jews didn't attend and neither did the English ladies -because the subject was a virtuous one about a chaste lady and the English ladies liked a spicy tale as in Handel's Greek mythology oratorio "Semele."

From which divan exactly are they singing??? This is not Yemeni poetry and nothing that belongs to Yemen!!!!! This is poetry in the Zionist Jewish language and has nothing to do with the Yemeni language or the language of the children of Israel or the children of Jacob!!!!!

Saying unintelligible stuff about Jews on KZbin is not a very impressive pastime, my friend. Maybe you could try gardening or something? Just trying to save you some embarrassment

Your entire country was jewish from the Himyar king. Judaism and Hebrew are an older and more formative culture and language to Yemen than even Islam. Verily, Islam is even a copy of Judaism in most of the religion. Maybe you should read your own history and understand how long Hebrew and Banu Yisra'el have lived in your land before making such an ignorant comment.

There is no such thing as american in relation to a language. It is English. Why should it be translated into English? It is being sung in the traditional language of the Yemeni people.

They want to compare this to St Yared’s Compositions? This is not only inferior, it’s noisy and monotonous.

@@donnicadunlap4894 It’s inferior for many reasons-and I’m 1000% entitled to my opinion. The Falasha chanting is ultimately based on the denial of the True & Almighty Divine Creator and Savior-Amanu’ayl, Who was born of and from Qidist Dingil Maryam, Weledite Amlak. Besides that, as I commented previously, St Yared and his descendants tones, annotations and lyrics are beyond the scope of ingenious & based on a truly unique system of intellect and composition.

So SO very glad there is finally a full version of this stunning work on KZbin (albeit with 2000-era sound quality...) I sincerely hope one day soon there will be a modern edition of this work published, for choirs around the world to easily buy and perform!

Interesting. I knew this melody as a Yiddish parody song recorded by Peppi Litman "Di Apikorsim". I think it was also collected as a dance tune by Sofia Magid in her field work
