This was not a surprise to any independent thinking molecular biologist. Idk why outside of group think, but the vast majority of people have such a deep and near religious hunger to see life confirmed on another planet that it completely biases their conception of time on the scale of epochs. If I had to guess, I'd bet every simple cellular function had to evolve hundreds if not thousands of times before it established itself. The complexity of even the simplest of cellular machinery is beyond imaginable. More complex enzymes arent built up around a primitive frame. They are assortments of highly complex subunits that have no reason for prexisting and its even more unplausible they came together on their own like mitochondria and Archia bc they couldnt exist on their on, in and of themselves. Its unreal.

300 microns sounds awfully large for a single cell. Such a cell would be easily visible and distinguishable with the naked eye.
