I like the whole cast. And Dee Dee definitely tried her best as a sister for Mona. Her mom and dad is the cause of all Mona issues not her sister. Now her step mom didn’t help the issues. But Charles and the mom weren’t mature parents in the situation.

It looks like they didn't know each other. Both of them gave the other the type of gift they would want to receive. I find it tactless. When i offer a gift, it's of the idea that the gift is for them, not for me or what i would like. Gina was better, yes, but her gift wasn't that thoughtful
@AllThingsGirlWorld
@AllThingsGirlWorld 15 сағат бұрын
I agree with that. It does seem like they both bought gifts for each other with only themselves in mind. Gina likes art, so she bought Martin the statue and Martin also wanted to get away, so he bought them both tickets to Chicago lol.

I think Gina was too good for Martin rewatching this in my adult years. If i receive a gift from my significant other that wasn’t my taste i would accept it because of the thought. Here are some fun facts: Gina’s father was played by J.A. Preston. He appeared on Good Times, The Jeffersons & he was in Hard Lessons. I think Hawthrone James (Big Red from The Five Heartbeats) should have played Gina’s father due to their strong resemblance.

I understand why people feel like Gina was too good for Martin. And I'd never even though of Hawthorne James playing Gina's dad, but I can definitely see it! However, I liked J.A. Preston as her father. I liked his kind of "no-nonsense" demeanor.

I’m married, and there have been gifts that I particularly do not like. But the gift isn’t the focal point. It’s the fact that my husband thought of me! So, no matter the gift, I show/speak my appreciation. It takes time to know your partner. Gina and Martin were still in the stages of truly getting to know each other as we watched them build their relationship. So, yes, Gina went out on a limb and bought a gift outside of Martin’s usual likes. But Martin is childish on his own and even more so when he is around his childish friends. They were unequally yoked because a mature man would’ve put his friends in their place and stood up for the woman he claims to love.
@AllThingsGirlWorld
@AllThingsGirlWorld 2 күн бұрын
I agree 100%. I really think that Martin would’ve just dealt with the statue, even if he didn’t like it, if it wasn’t for the fact that he felt embarrassed in front of his friends.

They did Mona awfully this show triggers me even as a child. I’m now 27 and it still does. Mona paid rent Dede didn’t. Charles paid little in nothing in child support because she was still poor. Then the episode with the charity banquet where they made Mona sit in the back hurt me bad til the point I can’t watch it in my adult life. Also Dede always treated Mona like a step child she always made Mona feel like 2nd place I would never do that to my second choice

And this here is the point I’ve been making about girlfriends for as long as I could remember. Joan wasn’t perfect and she had her moments but she always and I mean always was here for them. Paying Toni car payment so she doesn’t get repoed, Lynn living with her for 8 years., being there for William after Yvonne left him taking Mya in for damn near a year after Darnell kicked her out and she was going through the divorce. Andddddd all of the holidays and birthdays that they have all spent there and all of the advice and things she did for them. I love me some Joan carol Clayton.

What's your opinion on Joan Clayton? Also, do you think Joan's friends started to take advantage of her kindness a little bit? While I don't think the girls did it to be malicious at all, I do think that because Joan was always so ready and eager to help that it became easy to use her as a primary source for all of their emotional and financial problems. I mean, sure, that's what friends are for, but when it gets to a point that you are depleting your friend, that is when it becomes unfair. 🥴

I started watching this show and realized I had the same family dynamic growing up, I had hoped it would secretly heal something in me but mostly reaffirms it lol. Men in these situations usually take a step back and the leading lady(big dee dee) runs the show. If only step parents, mothers in particular took a little more care into their role stepping into a new family instead of being delusional and pushing them away. I think it may be their way of coping feeling like their roles are in jeopardy if the other family is still in the picture.

In all honesty, the family didn't fail her, however, it was more of the dad that failed her like you left the mom, didn't leave your daughter, and for you to not even spend time going to any type of recital that she had for her to not even know your associates your colleagues. Know what you do for me. Around, going to these parties is on him because that's her dad. However, I am going to say, because she didn't have no one really on her corner other than her mom, sometimes, and her friend Spencer. Even though he tried to hit it at times I wish I hit it to its Mona. She's lovely, she's beautiful and smart. And this is a cutie too. You know, without those 2, she probably wouldn't be the person. She is in all honesty. Without the family treating her the way she was treated, she would not be so hard and so striving the way she wanted to strive commend her for doing such a good job in her life, and I know, it's just a show. But I understand Mona's life so well honestly.

I definitely didn't like how Mona was treated throughout this show. It's a classic because so many people can unfortunately relate to it. I will say this: That episode when Big Dee Dee checks Dee Dee on what she said to Mona about being their baby brother's "half sister", that's the one time in this entire show that Big Dee Dee stood up for Mona. It was shocking but good to see! 👏🏽👏🏽 And I loved how their Grandmother Diahann Carroll saw the differences and spoke on it. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

To me which I think no one ever talks about was the colorism. Dee Dee was in Jack and Jill , upper crust lighter . Mona was darker, big puffy hair, works harder just to slightly move up ( the next floor and job). So it’s still very realistic til this day , unfortunately. The grandma was the reset from the older generation that learned from their generational mistakes and trying to correct the future generations into falling into the same traps.

There were certain instances in the show that hinted why the dad made a difference in Mina and Deedee. He praised Mona over Deedee all the time. He told Mona she was self sufficient and works hard for what she wants. She reminds him of him. He knows he doesn't have to baby Mona and she wouldn't take it.

I loved your video. I appreciate your video because you aknowledged all three adults flaws. Older videos I saw on this would paint big Dee Dee as the problem while not aknowkedging that her parents were the main people that should have protected her. I feel like Charles wasn't close to Moana because he is the type of parent who is only in his kids life due to how close he is with the mother. I think the reason he is so close to Dee Dee is because Big Dee Dee fostered that relationship. If him and Big Dee Dee didn't work out when Dee Dee was younger, I doubt they would have been this close. I agree that Big Dee Dee should have tried to make sure Moana was treated fairly in the family, but I think Charles in the main problem because at the end of the day Moana is his Child. He should have been her biggest advocate and made sure to include her as much as possible.
