I made a comment in fb chat that’s tied to a certain identity professors content about my 3rd attempt at the network+ exam and didn’t pass it. The reason being is that the first 2 times I took it was 80 questions and on the third attempt it was 74 questions. I spent my entire summer studying to prepare for my third attempt even got extended time on the exam due to my mental disability. Keep in mind I’m fresh to IT with no prior experience as well as going to school to get my associates. My intro to networking was 7 weeks and was only 1 day a week. First week Professor never showed up & had to get a brand new one the following week…. Didn’t learn anything from him but I was able to pass and recieve a free voucher for it. In the first two attempts I was simultaneously studying security as well as Linux while preparing for the exam. Both were 7 weeks, meaning a shit load of assignments and quizzes were due on the same day! So trying to balance all 3 at the same time was absolutely nightmarish. I was also going to networking events to get a job as well as trying to secure a work study at the same time. When I commented how people pass the first time with using a single source only was complete bs because you need utilize multiple sources to do it. Like yea if your not going to school and only working then taking a udemy course in your free time and schedule your exam at anytime, yea you can balance it out but when your a student in college and you have multiple deadlines for multiple classes in a filed your completely new in your gonna be overwhelmed…. Plain and simple. I got viewed as “you didn’t study hard enough, sounds like lack of dedication, maybe you should take self accountability & maybe you’re not cut out for this industry, ect.” People are so quick to judge now a days and feel entitled because they have that certification like it’s a gold ticket or something. Like what is more valuable, the knowledge you gain from learning and be 10x better than when you initially started or a piece of paper that costed you hundreds if not thousands of dollars to obtain that a company company can make for cheap?

Telling people how much you make isn’t unprofessional and don’t let anyone trick you into thinking it is. What is unprofessional is clickbait titles.

Contemplating between computer science and cybersecurity at WGU. Which one do you think would be better now? I want to explore both fields that’s why I’m pretty much stuck deciding right now

Thanks for the helpful information. Just a quick question. Did you use Obsidian at all for your note taking during your BS Program in Cybersecurity at WGU or just the whiteboard or both?

I’m curious on how the courses are laid out. For example is the amount of work similar to what you would be doing in a traditional 16 week college course? How many assignments, exams, tests can you expect to have per course?

Since this is a study at your own pace would you say you are prepared for a cybersecurity job? The WGU course list doesn't seem that in-depth from what I have seen.

Why is it unprofessional to say what you make after finishing your degree and finding a new job with it? Part of the reason you pursued your degree and changed jobs was to make more money. You wouldn't have done either if you simply thought you just wanted to go to college and change jobs "because". So you expected to make more money and wouldn't have made changes to take a pay cut.

I'm glad you said to get the degree which you need to secure then go to a bootcamp. You need the credentials. UCF is overing me a 10 month bootcamp but for $18000 WGU is less than $4000 for 6 months of taking as many classes as i can while actually getting credits that count towards a degree. I definitely will not be starting work without a bootcamp brother but i need these credentials. I also have military IT experience and have had a clearance before it expired because i did not work a clearance job 2 years after leaving the military. I'm trying to beat the clock.

Hi! Nice vid btw! I appreciate your experiences and input on being as a student in WGU. However what do you think about WGU for students that just graduate from high school? I've been hearing that people just don't recommend it at all because you NEED work expierence (based off the degree you apply to) to get through these courses. I'm planning on applying for a BA cyber security degree, however hearing that people just don't reccomend applying to this school without work expierence is kind of demotivating me to attend. I would really appreciate it if I got input on this, and it would help me be more comfortable on deciding on other options besides WGU. Thanks!!

Would you say this Bachelor degree is beginner friendly? I saw that one of the alternatives requirements to enroll in is to have a bachelor degree (which I have) but I have absolutely 0 experience in the subject or IT field. Do you start learning from zero or does it require you to have knowledge on a specific area so you don't get lost on the classes?

I also have no experience, in addition to not having a bachelor's degree and I am currently going through the program. The most difficult part for me was the CompTIA A+ certification course (which I took at WGU Academy) because of the breadth and depth of the information. Everything else has been pretty straight forward so far. For CompTIA A+ I used the professor messer videos in conjunction with the Mike Meyers book and videos they provided. If you don't know anything, reading the book (even though its super long) gives a great general understanding for everything.

Heading into my final 2 terms with 8 courses to go. Plan on finishing all 8 in this term. The key for WGU is to not procrastinate or underestimate assessments. Its very easy to fall behind if you go weeks doing no coursework.

What's your opinion on bootcamps compared to WGU? I know a bootcamps is fine but a degree (in budget) seems worth it as well? I'm in wgus cyber while also learning via Udemy and other courses on the side.

WGU only is not adequate to get a job because there is 0 hands on unless you do it yourself like I had to do. Do not expect any instructors to give you any ideas for labs because I asked multiple times.
