I enjoy using the S9 camera very much. Almost every camera made in the past five years will give great photos for beginners with very little effort as they all have an automatic mode and they all work well. The S9 was labeled as a beginner camera but the menus and functionality are not beginner friendly at all. Cameras are complex but they all have an automatic mode.

Right in that era of music for sure. This track and others from Queen’s first albums were songs Freddie Mercury wrote based on games he and his sister played as children. This song is a precursor to Bohemian Rhapsody a couple years later. Not for everyone in music style but the lyrics and tempo changes in this song carried throughout their career. I’ve tried so many types of gloves and gloves can be difficult to take off while holding a camera, they get lost when you take them off and on like that. I have pockets so I don’t need thick warm gloves and if the glove is too thin it offers no protection. I got these at a bicycle store. The pads and grip are made so they can change the gears. They had exact sizing so they go on and off easy. They are quite nimble and passed the final test of touchscreen usability. I’ve had these for a couple years. At the end of the day, the S9 takes great photos. That very basic tweak you did, got the result you desired, and did it very nicely. I actually think I prefer this set of 'orange-only', over the Fuji set, the other day, but different days, different takes, different lighting, blah, blah, blah. I think the live LUTS/custom LUTS, has tons of potential, is virtually limitless in scope and there are some great pre-set packs you can buy out there (and free ones), and ofc, create your own. It's a system I'm really looking forward to getting into, when I finally decide which way to go and take the plunge.

I’m glad LUMIX opened it up to all current cameras. The more the merrier! I’m currently working on a LUT for fall. I went out and used 6-7 Photo Styles with zero’d out parameters (no added color, contrast, etc). The one thing that binds these LUTs is the photo style used. You can’t change that in LL. Like a fuji film sim, they are the base for custom LUTs. So my plan is to work with the photo style and see what works best to build a LUT for fall on the river. lol

Really nice for that autumn vibe and transition into those lovely warm and rich colours. Just having that little pop of warm orange brings life to the nostalgic B&W 'canvas'. I think this can be really effective, especially where it remains subtle, 3:38 , 3:42, 4:14 and 4:22 are good examples....The full color shots are nice too...shot with the S9, I presume? Just read, it says S9 photos, so that answers my question...lol
@DanFarrar13 күн бұрын
The S9 photos were by accident. I meant to be in video but switched to photo by mistake. The photo looked so nice on the LCD…I thought I would grab some more lol. One major error was I was doing some high Rez photos the day before so I turned the IBIS off. All the video was my own stabe lol. The “orange” themed photos are for a local project (photo club). The deepness of the orange colors has to do more with light than color. The flat light scenes get that subtle look and the more saturated scenes are when the contrast is high. The aperture can help deepen or lighten the look but the natural light has the most to say in the finished exposure. Using good photo editing techniques would likely get better results (or more precision) but I prefer to work what I can from the camera…just my gig lol.

@@kenbaker2996 Don’t forget the S9 with a kit lens option. The kit lenses are pretty good and offer a pretty good discount when bought together. In my personal experience, the IBIS is perfect under 80mm or so. Over 80 and I need the OIS on the lens as well. That said, lenses under 80mm really don’t need OIS in the lens as the body does great stabilization on its own under 80mm. Hello Dan, I like the retro vibe with those B&W shots. Not too sure on the S9's functionality. Did you activate the grain in cam?, or apply in post?...TBH, if it was in cam, I think Fuji does the best overall job with grain, they kinda have that dark-arts thing going on, but I like the shots you got nontheless. I've pretty much made my mind up on the Panasonic front and am going to go for the S5IIX, after much (full frame) research and deliberation. How are you going on with the live-LUTS?
@DanFarrar20 күн бұрын
The grain is built into the photo style on the LEICA Monochrome setting. I don’t think LUMIX has a grain option in camera otherwise. LUMIX LUTS does offer a film grain in the app but it doesn’t transfer back to real time LUT in camera (I think 🤔). Anyway, I agree Fuji has the grain going on! The real time LUTs got held up by the incredible look of the Standard Photo Style. LUMIX Photo Styles are like Fuji film sims and I remember being blown away by Fuji PROVIA on my XE-1 with kit lens a good decade ago lol. Same type of thing on the Standard with the S9. An S5IIX!!! Wow dude, that is so sweet! What a rig that is. Have you decided on lenses?
@innercityunit211219 күн бұрын
@@DanFarrar Good question... There's a deal here in the UK, the S5IIX plus twin kit lenses, the 20-60 (3.5 t0 5.6), plus a 1.8, 50mm. I love 50mm focal length, so this set up will give me that plus 28 and 35 as well, and I can buy an 85 a little later down the line (and then a 135). Although the variable aperture on the 20-60 isn't ideal, I'm sure it will be fine to get the ball rolling and the f/1.8 of the 50mm is plenty fast enough for me. But I do need to do a little more research re which lens set up to opt for, which is obviously just as important. I might even just buy body only and choose a different lens, that I think will better suit my needs, maybe just a better 35, or a 50, will have to see. But the dual lens option is a pretty good way to get up and running at a really decent price. I can get the camera body that comes with both lenses for around £2000, brand new, saving just shy of £300. A pretty good deal.
@DanFarrar19 күн бұрын
@@innercityunit2112 Here are some things I’m enjoying. First off, the f1.8 primes are light, sharp, and fast. All the same size and approx. weight. The 20-60 non-extended is that same size/weight. I have the 85mm and 18mm primes with the 20-60 as an all rounder. I have considered getting the 35mm f1.8 but so far the 20-60 has served well and I can’t justify the trade/purchase. I’m eyeballing the 28-200 with added OIS as the 85 prime is a tad jumpy for my caffeine induced photo shoots lol. The 18mm and 20-60 are solid perfect stability with the IBIS but the 85 is the break point for stability for handheld videos. Dogs knock over tripods lol. I use a VND filter all the time (daylight) with these lenses. I used a lot of manual focus for photos on this video to shoot through fences and what not. Manual focus is a dream on this system…tight and easy to nail. I like the switch right on the lens so I can toggle back quickly. Oh, yah, you’re gonna love the auto focus, stability, and menu layout but miss some things too.
@innercityunit211218 күн бұрын
@@DanFarrar I use a fair amount of manual focus too, for similar reasons and for close up/macro-territory shots, so that's good to know. I'm not going to say anything re Fuji auto-focus, I've never had too many problems really, but it's nice to know auto-focus is good too...I've seen YT videos of the S9, shooting hand-held video and the stabilisation was almost gimbal like, it looked that good! Thanks for the overview and your thoughts, always nice to get a 'real-life', perspective/view/recommendation, from a reliable source. Still, I never rush things, so I will naturally take a step back now, go over things a few more times, before taking any sort of plunge, but the Panasonic system, in my eyes, does look like a good system to compliment the Fuji system and run alongside in parallel.
@DanFarrar18 күн бұрын
Cameras are all pretty damn good these days. The differences mostly come down to your comfort level on a camera system. I’m a geek who follows most new releases from camera companies. I think the only real difference in AF between Fuji and Lumix is the AF-C. With Fuji I was single point AF and happy with it for the most part. I tried AF-C on the Fuji but it never stayed continuous so I stuck with AF only. The AF-C on the S9 locks on and sticks and follows. The AF on the S9 makes EVF photo and video very doable. As for Fuji, my X-Pro3 is still my favorite but I am really excited to see Fuji comes out with in ‘25.
