As an 80 year old Canadian, who was born in Carshalton and grew up in Beddington, I can attest to the value of Beddington park as a youngster....playing football, cricket, sailing my boat on the stock pond, rowing on the lake and having some dentist work done at the old Grange.......big part of my life before I turned 11 and emigrated. Thanks to the film makers for this sensitive and gentle look at the park....all the best

The main roads between St Philomenas, to Sutton, round the one way system and out to Cheam Village are 20mph! Yet all the side roads which are narrower are still 30mph! There are numerous other over zealous reductions from 30 to 20mph across the borough. Nearly always these are on A and B roads which for decades were 30mph. You say you aren't bringing in a blanket 20mph across the borough, but it's pretty blooming close! It's frankly ludicrous! And increases toxic NOx emissions as every car built in the last 20 years is optimised for 30mph not 20mph. Our European neighbours would never countenance 20mph main roads! Cars are safer than ever for occupants and have better pedestrian protection. Better brakes, better tyres and better safety systems. For decades 30mph was sufficient and safe. Now you believe you are better placed to bring in a lower speed limit that actually leads to people driving along looking at their dashboard and not the road. And it so pitifully slow, I'm faster on my bike than in my car. No one is suggesting there are no place where 20mph is sensible (within 100metres of primary schools and nurseries is prudent) But when you introduce excessively low speed limits you either get a) mass disobedience of them or b) you then get people driving faster than is sensible everywhere else to try and "make up time" or c) You get people using back roads to get around the 20mph roads. Increasing traffic on roads less suitable by design (the law of unintended consequences) I call on the council to reinstate the 30mph limits on A and B roads throughout the borough, without exception. And modify side roads near primary schools and nurseries to 20mph if they are TRULY concerned about safety on our roads
