Beautiful six spine (I think??) leatherjacket. Great eating and so easy to prepare. Usually find a lot of those in the northern parts of sydney (like northbridge)

the fish also may be a yellow tail pike either way a cool fish
@get_fished6 ай бұрын
I think you're right, they might just be different names for the same fish. It looks like it is a yellowfin barracuda / sea-pike: australian.museum/learn/animals/fishes/yellowtail-barracuda-sphyraena-obtusata/

I caught a 77 cm Kingy on live yellowtail not far from there about 2 weeks ago. Live bait is definitely the way to catch the legal sized fish.

Nice work! Plenty of them around at the moment. Yeah live bait is definitely the way to go!

Butterfly, rub in equal parts salt and brown sugar and smoke over manuka. That's how we treat Kahawai in NZ. You Aussies are so confused, that ain't no salmon!

I like how you regrouped and got the skin you missed!! Watch your fingers with a fillet knife 😮😮😮😮😮. I prefer to cut around the ribs as opposed to cutting through them (just my preference)😊

Thanks for the comment! We ended up with two beautiful fillets which we can hopefully share next time we catch some of these!
