This is your best presentation of the Lord's Prayer (Avinu Prayer) to date ! When asked "where do you get your authority", part of what the Pharisees were challenging Yeshua with was something like "where do you get off combining scripture in these new ways ? ! ? !" Only the most exalted and prominent Rabbi's of the day such as Shamai and Gamiel were "authorized" to combine scripture in this manner. By combining different parts of scripture in the Lord's Prayer as you have described, Yeshua was exhibiting His "authority". Berachot,

What an awesome sermon and that sharing our story is a powerful way to show our compassion and care for others as Jesus taught us by his example. This how we share Jesus Christ with others. Thank you

GREAT Lesson ! Even more so: Hebrew is an action-oriented language. It is not a passive language like English can be at times. For instance: "Remembering" like "hearing" are not simply a mental exercise but is a call to "action". To "remember" something, we do not simply think about it . . . but we something to remember it. When we "remember" dearly departed loved ones, we don't simply think about them . . . but we their names and about them to our children, each other and friends. We "remember" our Exodus every year by participating in an elaborate celebration. We "remember" God's Name by it "from generation to generation" (Ex 13:15). We "hear" something by following through and something about what we heard . . . like the instructions of fathers gave us as children. And we "remember" Yeshua and what He has done for us by a blessing in His honor and by our in Communion. Brandon, you are spot on with this lesson . . . as you are apt to be with all of your lessons . . . ;-) Thank you, Brandon. Berachot,

Dt 15: Dealing with someone with an open hand: . An example of this practice is what Pharaoh and the King of Gerar (Abimelech) did when they sent Abraham away. They both sent Abraham away with more than he (Abraham) had when he arrived. There were some extenuating circumstances in both of these incidences . . . but it would appear that the ancient principle was applied. Just a thought . . .

Lord's Prayer: Forgiving debt . . . I wonder if this is what Yeshua was thinking in the Prayer that He taught the Disciples ?

Great lesson ! We often forget that God's Instructions are filled with "wisdom and truth". He is truly looking after our best interest. But God's Instructions are also filled with "authority". God's Instructions are not just good ideas put forward by some popular self-help guru . . . but the very Words of God Himself . . . the Creator of Heaven and Earth (Gen 14:19-22). There is a reason why He has left us these Instructions. Great point, Brandon. Berachot,

Thank you, I learned things I didn't know about the Tabernacle. What I am taking away with me today is that the Tabernacle was to remind the Israelites that God was with them, He was not pharaoh, that He is truly God and will live with them. That the tabernacle points to the One who is too come to us in the New Testament and dwell within us. We have the Holy Spirit and Jesus will never abandon us.

Hi Brandon, I’m a fellow Methodist from OK. I’ve been following you on another channel and I have been amazed at the depth of your knowledge and your teaching style. Not surprised to find out you went to Duke! I am glad, through power of internet to find you here preaching at a UMC. How wonderful for the people of your congregation! This was an excellent sermon. Keep pressing on! I was a spouse in UMC ministry and know there can be challenges. I will uphold you and your family in prayer and will love catching up on this sermon series. Blessings!

I must be as forgetful as the disciples! My husband is finishing a chaplain residency and he wants to go on to Berkeley School of Theology to get his Masters in Divinity. I keep telling him, "There's no way we can afford that", even though God just provided us with the money for tuition, a 2nd vehicle, and a room in a beautiful home rent-free for 15 months for him to take the CPE training. Where is My faith?! 😕

The innocent, unconditional love that your daughter showed by wanting to buy you a car is the image of what Yeshua was talking about when He said, "I tell you the truth, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” Great lesson. Berachot,

In a society where God (Yehovah) alone can forgive sins, when Yeshua said to the lame man that his sins were forgiven, Yeshua was declaring His Divinity . . . and in the eyes of the Pharisees that heard Yeshua say that, that statement was blasphemous ! Berachot,

Great message about community. We have a tendency to "catch" what people we associate with have . . . their enthusiasm, joy, knowledge, our approach to things like physical fitness and health, etc. If we associate with other Believers, then we begin to feed off each other. We can see what Yeshua is doing through our associates, family and friends. And in that way, our own Faith grows through our associations with other Believers. Community was a natural, inherent part of ancient Jewish culture. It is not so much with us. We have to deliberately work at being part of a community. But the strength of community does not happen when we walk alone. Berachot,

Anther great lesson. Thank you, Brandon. • In the shadow of the fraudulent king of the Jews (Herod) . . . The True King was born . . . • To the teen-aged Miriam (Mary) . . . The Son of God was born . . . • Among the lambs . . . The Lamb of God was born . . . • A Messenger came to proclaim to the Shepherds of Migdal Eder (Tower of the Flocks) that a Savior had been born . . . a Savior who was to be named Yeshua which means “God saves” (Mt 1:21-25; Lk 1:31, Lk 2:21, 25-35) • The shepherds were among the first witnesses to the birth of The Good Shepherd . . . Merry CHRISTmass.

Another great lesson, Brandon. Thank you for explaining the connection to Hagar. I love the way The Chosen portrayed the incident with the Samaritan woman at the well. They portray Yeshua going to Jacob's Well with the express purpose of meeting this specific woman. In the portrayal of The Chosen, this was no chance meeting . . . but a Divine Appointment. There is a lesson in that for us as well. Furthermore, as much as it is true that the Samaritans and the Jews were not friendly toward each other, we see in the Text that the Samaritans were indeed waiting for Messiah. Throughout the Text, many Samaritans accepted Yeshua as the long-awaited Messiah. To this very day, there are modern Samaritans still waiting at the exact same location - Jacob's Well - for the Messiah. Shadows of the Bible exist to this very day.

This Shabbat episode is one of my favorite episodes of the series. In addition to the Shabbat theme, I especially like the encounter with Nicodemus and Mary. "It wasn't anything you did . . . Here is what I can tell you. I was one way. Now I am completely different. And the thing that happened in between was Him. So, yes. I will know Him for the rest of my life." Nothing more needs to be said. Shalom,
