After much consideration of either installing a second battery to my vehicle or purchasing one of these,- I decided on the Engel Smart Battery box. The cost of a second batter install into the vehicle was almost twice the price. I found a good second hand smart box and installed a new 120 AH battery for less than $600 (yes, I got a bargain on the smart box second hand!). We use this to power our fridge while travelling and we top up the battery using a 200watt solar blanket and MPP controller to prevent damaging the battery.

I have the plug-in version of their air bed. This one wasn't around yet when I bought mine. I love it! No more sagging in the middle of the night! I might need this one just because... Have you tested the full runtime of the battery? I read it's supposed to last for 7 days. I'm sure that depends on how much it is used (how cool it gets).
@calebwright28492 жыл бұрын
I just ordered the regular one and I plan to use a ryobi inverter with one of my power tool batterys to plug it in while camping. All the major power tool companies make inverters that run off of a 18v battery or a std 12v deep cycle/car battery for a reasonable amount of money IF you already have power tool battery's. Ryobis 120watt inverter that I got is only 49.99 normally but I got it for 39.99 and can work both by cig lighter plug in or use 18volt power tool battery. Pretty useful and can be used in emergency like power loss. Also solar generators are fairly affordable but you could easily diy one by buying a small lithium battery and an inverter with a solar panel battery charger. We have a 100ah lithium battery for our trolling motor on our inflatable boat that can double as a power center as well.

@PaulHackettAdventureTravels2 жыл бұрын
Not too sure Robert, I didn’t compare the two in any way nor even mention it. My question in the title is……Is it the best cost effective 12v dual battery system alternative? Which leaves people to make up their own mind. But, are they both equal? Do they both have 300W Pure sine wave inverters, Anderson plugs, USB’s etc etc that’s a question for the individual to research and decide which they think is better for their purposes. Thanks for you input.

Paul, this is a great video! May I ask how long it takes to charge your voltax 100ah battery using AC socket? I'm still tossing between this option or just buy dometic PLB40 or Companion Rover 40ah. The Engel box does seem far more powerful but I'm concerned about the reliability of the box, I heard its made by Ark Pak and reviews not so great.
@PaulHackettAdventureTravels2 жыл бұрын
Mate, thanks for the kudos. The only 'limiting' thing with the Dometic or Companion is that they are only 40ah which could be an issue depending on what you want to power. The Engel and Ark Pak are as you suggest exactly the same just with a different sticker on the front....can't confirm but I believe you are correct about who makes them. I accidentally let the battery go flat recently and although I didn't time how long it took to recharge it was fully charged within a very short period of time (I remember how surprised I was that it had fully charged in such a short time). I can confirm though that the box is 'solid', I haven't had any problems with it at all....cheers.
@amiraljaberi2 жыл бұрын
@@PaulHackettAdventureTravels Thanks! I agree you can’t get lots of power from 100ah but I think comes at higher price. The cost of 100ah and the box will be around $900 or close to a $1000. I can prob get two Rover for $900 if I wanted. This way prob works out better as you always have back up in case of failure :) The PLB40 is way too expensive but because it has DCDC charger which can be used to quickly charge through 12 cig socket. The downside of Rover is that it’s a bit slow to charge.

@@amiraljaberi I’m looking at companion 40 or 70ah, Bluetti eb70 which is 60ah, or this combo of voltx 100ah and Engels Companion 70ah, Bluetti eb70 and this setup are all around the same cost ($1-1.1k). The companion 40ah is roughly half of that at $550. I love the idea of a more portable setup, like the all in one’s…. But very tempted on longevity for the battery and box.
@AidanCran2 жыл бұрын
@@amiraljaberi absolutely, great purchase!! Rover 40ah has been on top of my list for a long time. Battery and solar get the same price as other options of just battery. I’ve read reviews of many people taking rover 40 and easily lasting a wkend with some solar help. I’m not needing it right now, but I researched both companion batteries came out Oct 2020, so I’ve got fingers crossed that an update is coming with maybe usb-C and/or one proper power outlet. Then it’s a no brainer for the price 😋

@PaulHackettAdventureTravels2 жыл бұрын
It has a 'plug' adapter but I'm not certain what size (possibly 2 or 3mm), perhaps take your pump/charger to an electrical accessory store so they can check and supply the correct connection. It is a common connection type, you should be able to find one fairly easily.
@lerma28912 жыл бұрын
Queen_Dutchess37 were you able to find another cable? I lost mine also.
@luxmunk11 ай бұрын
These usb cables are fairly common. Sometimes you’ll find those little cooling fans that you put underneath your laptop and they have a cord that runs between your USB on a laptop and the fan. It has USB on one end in it. On the other end. It’s got a barrel tip meaning around tip it’s nothing particularly fancy. I found my replacement cable by digging through my computer cables. This is one instance, where if it the USB fits into the USB of an iPad charger brick… and if the other end fits into the pump, then it will work. This is not a smart cable. Very basic cable.

fails to mention it costs over 600 dollars and you then need a battery. And the inverter is 300w, so ok for a laptop.
@PaulHackettAdventureTravels3 жыл бұрын
Clearly a battery is being installed into the battery box during the video and I talk about the types of batteries that can be used in it so yes, it does cover that a battery is required. I don't sell them so I don't talk price but they can be found for as little as around $450 if you look online and check, especially if you check for sales specials. The video does also cover the fact that the inverter is 300 watts and explains for what use that is (such as a laptop)....you may need to watch it again if you missed those points....thanks for your input.

Paul, this video could serve as a textbook example of how to produce a quality product review. Every aspect of the production is right on the mark: it's reasonably comprehensive while still being concise; the product shots are well framed and clear; cuts and transitions are rational, clean and crisp; the script is well organized and your narration is clear, confident and well paced, the audio is properly balanced and you have just the right proportion of presence on camera. Pretty much everything about the video is exceptionally well crafted. You either have a gift or have done your homework or both. Well done sir! PS ~ some company with a catalog full of products they want to make videos for should hire you immediately.
