Can we anticipate a move away from hourly medcomms project pricing, toward a more commoditised flat fee structure for particular deliverables?

The survey results for different generations made so much sense. Multigenerational teams are the norm nowadays. Thanks to all the speakers for sharing their opinions and experiences.

Thank you guys for the valuable discussions you post. I just completed an advance course in Medical Writing but couldn't secure a job so far which is frustrating. Beginners suffer the most. Medical Writing is a field that matches my interest and qualifications but since the emergence of Chat GTP, I grew anxious and felt that my promising career is under threat before it starts. I am truly confused and pessimistic

Love Peter's question at 37:40. Why produce a technical paper in the first place. 😆 My answer is that: 1/ Researchers are rarely professional writers, never mind plain language specialists. So the only way to get the paper/science out is to let the researchers tackle it in their own words. 2/ Companies, publishers and researchers may worry that if they make it simple, readers will think they're simple-minded. Or they'll think that if it's simple, it's obvious and so not worth discussing.

Just when I have given up hope to find a video with the correct rules in how to use colon. Our curriculum covers a run-in list and vertical list; we also use colons to introduce and explanation or emphasis. I simply tell my students (age 10) to have a complete sentence before the colon: it simplifies the new skill. Would you consider also making a video that would explain the rule to younger students? I loved you video.

Great! Really liked and agree with the part about 2 layers of prompt engineering and of course, all comments regarding provenance/contribution in the future. And of course, the outlook - completely agree!

It is so hard to get an entry level position even with a PhD since companies posting entry level positions require a minimum of 2 years experience.

Interesting points about the highly paid SMWs…could this be very experienced writers who don’t want extra responsibilities on top of writing, but don’t want to be freelance, so their title remains the same but they have an outlier salary reflecting experience? Med comms feels like a relatively young industry and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a writer retire from an agency…

I do agree with Peter...you could listen to Trishna Bharadia for hours. She is a pioneering patient leader who can see where changes are needed. More importantly, she has the right combination of pragmatism, passion, and persistence to build the bridges necessary to make those changes happen. Great interview - thanks both!

A useful overview of the context of where we sit with AI today. Some discussion on the potential role in medical communications, and conclusion that - at this point - things like GPT are tools to be used cautiously until concerns over privacy, quality and reliability can be resolved.

100% agree that this is a game changer and we should be open to its opportunity, whilst being mindful of ethical practice. I definitely use ChatGBT conversationally - rather than entering prompts - to focus my own thinking. And I'll admit to finding myself having heated debates every now and again, albeit only heated on my side!

An interesting point from this interview which was made was that all the agencies in this interview agreed that they prefer a candidate who contacts them Directly rather than coming through an agency!

A couple of very important points was mentioned in this interview. Here is a summary of the key points in my personal opinion; A) Core skills required for an account manager were mentioned to include the following: Listening, Communication, Budget management, deadline management, team work, organisation and last but not least, attention to details. B) Cross functional management with medics, marketing team, researchers, compliance team, clinicians, patient advocates and colleagues. C) Make sure when sending your covering letter, you address it to someone instead of stating "to whom it may concern".

Thank you for a great webinar! I am based in the UK and thinking of becoming a freelance writer, but am also intending to buy a property. Have any of you been in the position where you were looking to get a mortgage while being a freelancer? Do you know if freelancing/self-employment lessens your chances of getting s mortgage?
