Curious, I've seen lots of Workbench videos, and it would seem that some kind of monocoat is used. I wonder why you don't use boiled linseed oil? (I know very little about finishing, so again, I'm just curious, and not judgemental). Now we've got to get you some more space. Beautiful work! Thanks!

What a great way to wake up. I grabbed my morning coffee and went to my man cave to watch a little youtube when your video came up. I loved your choice of wood and joinery. This is not just a work bench. More like a fine peice of furniture, to be passed down through your family. I would love to see more detail explained in the future. Jac.

What's the purpose of the dogleg to the left of the leg vise? Never seen that before, and it seems like something that will be in the way.
@LateNightWoodworking7 күн бұрын
The purpose is for when you’re using the leg vice on a really long board those will help support the board. Very worth having. You can also pull them out at anytime
@handyboy20005 күн бұрын
@LateNightWoodworking I'm not talking about the bench dogs. I was asking why your bench top has an L-shaped leg that turns out past your vice on the left side. I have never seen a bench shaped like that, and can't imagine what it is for.
@LateNightWoodworking5 күн бұрын
Ahh I see, well I liked the way it looked, and I actually have liked using it as sort of a back stop to things in the Vice. It also provides a wider portion of the bench on both sides which is proving useful when working on bigger pieces and it hasn’t gotten in the way yet.

I am not sure which I like better, the quality of the project or the quality of the video😊 Please don’t make me choose. Keep up the great work. I actually am in a smaller space, 22 x 28, but what I have chosen to do is to go with the Oneida Mini Gorilla for my larger dust collection option and the brand new Hercules dust extractor for my smaller machines. So far extremely happy with both units. My table saw of choice is the job site saw from SawStop. It fits my needs and my space. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for sharing your content with us! Mike

Aaaand here's my second comment: Dave, yes, you ARE the MAN. Now, you can't let that go to your head, dude. Yes, Sam Maloof kept an impossibly messy shop, yet redefined woodworking. However, you're not Sam Maloof. Clean out your shop, dude, so you can continue toward Maloof-dom. -- or -- Dave... you don't know me... suffice it to say I have a certain set of skills...

You're getting two comments from me... first, awesome work. Boxes are in fact much harder than they appear, simply because they are close to the most basic essence of all woodworking. I watch cooking shows with my wife, and it's like when the contestant decides to make an omelet for Gordon Ramsay... simple = hard. Personally, I'm not a fan of purpleheart, but you did use it in a way that was not oppressive. I laughed at the clip of you planing it and said, 'yep, gotta love that impossible wood.'
@LateNightWoodworking9 күн бұрын
Oh my gosh it was such a pain in the butt trying to hand plane it, even with super straight grain it would still tear out! Thank you for the comments, simple but hard yes. 👍🏻

Very nice work. Handmade with care begets an item that can last several lifetimes. As you continue to grow as a woodworker consider how someone in the future can repair a well-loved piece. The artisans of old would set glass into rabbets then lock them in with quarter round. This allows for glass replacement without having to totally disassemble the frame. PVA glues can be reversed but with much more difficulty than hide glue. Keep up the good work and keep pouring your soul into your craft.
@mattelias7219 күн бұрын
True, true. The way this young man is learning, though, means he'll discover the joy of hide glue soon enough. Also, in these situations I opt for the rabbets as well because that pin nail that I drive is only going into one of two places - the glass, or my finger. Your mileage may vary.
@LateNightWoodworking9 күн бұрын
Wow I have actually never considered that before, thank you.
@mattelias7219 күн бұрын
@@LateNightWoodworking Nailing your finger, or hide glue? LOL. When I can, when using glass, I also try to engineer the frame itself to be removable, and then just remake it with new glass if required.
@LateNightWoodworking9 күн бұрын
😂 I was actually referring to the original comment, I’ll try to stay away from nailing into my finger

Awesome job being able to produce such quality pieces out of such a small shop. Even not on sale, the sawstop is the saw to get if safety is your primary concern. The PCS will take up less space than your current saw because the motor doesn't hang out the back.
