I always loved this intro. Not only the music but the scenes of the horses. Nothing more powerful than horses to this music. Never did I dream that many, many years later I would have real horses and now I have them. Fantasy has become reality.

I am still crying on this scene. My grandftaher had on Eastern Front fought. On the so called "Big retreating". Whoever drunk strong alcohol as an illusion of survival, died.

The problem is you have no reason to feel invested in the opening montage of characters they introduce. Then you bump into Conan and are like, who the hell is that tiny guy over there? Even more characters you just don't care about from the outset with this film.

Sometimes more men had been lost to avalanches than to bullets. In the movie "Berge in Flammen" (mountains in flames) two friends are fighting as officers on different sides. The final scene is much better than in the "Stalingrad" movie: Both friends climb again together.
