Im 78kg, didn’t feel to small for good waves, just felt shit to paddle and yeah once ure up it was amazing, but I have a shortboard I really like for good waves and I wanted the seaside to work well in smaller waves so yeah was a bit small for small waves. Are you still riding the Sunday? If so how are you finding it in small waves
@AddisonRowland

Yes, still riding it, will post a video talking about it later this week, it works in small waves, better than any board ive ridden thats 7’0 long or shorter but its not a longboard alternative. Works in longboard waves but but it feels slow and can be difficult to make sections and get down the line compared to a log or something longer.

PU or PE construction? Which would be better for a longer length version? Thanks.
@AddisonRowland
@AddisonRowland 22 күн бұрын
As far as I know PE is lighter and will have more flex, I had PU and I think PU is an easier repair and less likely to get waterlogged when dinged. Either construction will be epic it depends on what you want your glider to do, if u sizing up to make it a long big board in ure quiver the weight of the PU is kinda nice to have, more momentum down the line, if ure going for more performance style turns and sizing it in that mid length range maby go with PE?

sweet waves ! any updates on the sunday as a small wave board and its paddle abilities ?
@AddisonRowland
@AddisonRowland 29 күн бұрын
Honestly should do an update on it, I bought it as a small wave board but it kinda seems more like an all rounder. Paddles and catches waves effortlessly but its not a longboard in small waves, takes some pumping and won’t go in gutless waves. It has some rocker and a pulled in tail so this means for me it seems to go really good in quality waves waist high and bigger, could probably ride it in double overhead. I think of it more now as a super easy to surf mid, easy to catch waves, intuitive easy to ride that goes in all conditions but not a longboard replacement. Hope that helps!

Let me knock what you think! I think it goes pretty good in smaller waves but my 7’0 Sunday doesn’t go as good as my 8’0 mid glider and i doubt any 7’ board would go in smaller waves better than a flat rockered 8’ board

@@AddisonRowland hey man i have a question for ya. im 5'10/5'11 , i weigh roughly 75/76kg and im a late beginner. if i took a 7'6 foamie out to urban surf, id catch 8/10 waves at PT, if i took out my 8 foot 60 litre torque board, id catch 6 or 7 out of 10. right now im struggling with paddle fitness but im working on it pretty hard so should be ok by spring/early summer. i wanna buy an album twinsman. im trying to learn bottom/top turns and cut backs, and i plan on spending most of my sessions on PT and Intermediate over the next few months. my question is, do you think a 6 foot twinsman is too long to perform snappy turns etc on those two waves? and that i should aim for a 5'10 or 5'11? also, would you recommend the pin tail or the original tail for a late beginner about to hit early intermediate at urbnsurf? for me its about confidence and steadyness when trying to turn. mate thanks so much any feed back would be greatly appreciated.
@AddisonRowland
@AddisonRowland 29 күн бұрын
Woah, awesome dude, yeah paddling at urban is hectic haha I would suggest you buy something cheap in that size range before you commit to an expensive new or even used album shortboard, you could probably find a 6’0 or 6’2 shortboard for 200-300 and this would give you an idea for its going to be like to paddle and catch waves, ure dropping alot of litres going from 60L down to 38L in the 6’0 twinsman. Its hard to say without seeing you surf but I know on average everyone seems to go to small to quick, I did it, my friends have done it. Maby a mid length would be a better step down somthing like the firewire sunday, a 7’0 with 53L is gonna be manoeuvrable as heck with ure feet in the right spot. I have made this mistake before you definitely do not need a shortboard to learn turns. I really like my pintail but they are both epic shapes I guess its almost a feeling thing, witch tail shape u prefer.

Seaside or Plasmic for small waves? Watched your quiver review and noticed you don’t have the Plasmic anymore.
@AddisonRowland
@AddisonRowland 2 ай бұрын
The plasmic I used to have was a 5’8” x 20 3/4” x 2 5/8” 38.2L The Seaside I have now is 5'5" x 20' 15/16" x 2' 1/2" 31.5L So the plasmic definately would be better for small waves, however I have changed how I think about the Fish in my quiver, I used to want to ride the fish in my quiver in small waves as thats kind of how they are advertised, but I have found in small waves an oversized fish is still no where near as fun as a good small wave mid length. So for me now the fish in my quiver is for semi decent to decent waves and I choose to ride it instead of a shortboard because I want to feel somthing different. Does that make sense? If I were to buy a fish for small waves and I was choosing between the plasmic and the seaside it would really come down to feel, do you want the twinny looseness of the plasmic or the quad grip, projection and hold for the seaside? If you got a 5'8" seaside I think it would go just as good in small waves as the plasmic, they both have flat rockers, wide points forward ect. Its more a question of feel, the seaside will be lighter with helium construction and have more hold and projection, the Plasmic will be looser and have a bit more momentum because its heavier.

It’s completely shit to paddle compared to the Sunday 🤣 The Sunday has an extra 20L of volume almost double to amount of buoyancy and you can definitely feel it, however in decent waves if you know where to position yourself you don’t need a good paddler to catch waves. Definitely harder to paddle, catch waves and surf than the Sunday tho.

The 6’0 definitely boosted my progression, but it got to a point where it felt boaty. Thanks for the review ! How do you think for exclusively riding it in small waves ? Also would love a comparison with the SnB, i have it and love it but it just needs a bigger wave and some push, not a good board as a fat / small wave board
@AddisonRowland
@AddisonRowland 2 ай бұрын
I guess it depends on what you consider small waves, and it depends on how you have sized it, personally Ive had two sessions on the 6’8 SnB now and it seemed to go pretty good in small waves. I.e Thigh-stomach high waves They feel pretty similar to me in terms of the small wave glide, they aren’t longboards but they go pretty good I think. What size have you got?
@KC-ro9ro
@KC-ro9ro 2 ай бұрын
@@AddisonRowland oh you think the 6'8 was better than the 7 in small waves ? For me its like anything under my daily driver, also spots like longboard fat mellow waves. Ive been struggling finding a midlength that goes well in those, they always want some size to be able to move and do anything. My SnB is a 7'0. I surf mainly Indo, amd tbh it mainly works in average waves with a minimum of push, but then start being clunky in good waves so it doesnt make it that versatile. So i wanted to build a two board quiver of mids with a more hollow / bigger wave board (mid strength or mid 6) and then a small wave board
@AddisonRowland
@AddisonRowland 2 ай бұрын
Yeah fair enough, I reckon the SnB is more of a medium wave board not really and longboard alternative. Maby you could look at something a bit longer to be ure small wave board, I had a Hayden Shapes ML glider that worked well is tiny waves, it was an 8’0 56L I have a review on it. In terms of mid-lengths designed for small waves I feel like the big names design for people who will only own one board. So they usually aren’t just for small waves. Maby the ryan lovlace FM would be interesting to check out or the V-bowls?

@@AddisonRowland yeah, I saw your hayden shape vid, was cool ! thing is i travel a lot, and after getting stuck at an airport for hours due to my boards not fitting i made a rule to myself to never carry more than 7'0 boards ever again haha and yeah you're right, most boards of big brands are defo "one board quiver " even though i tnd to find they are for the spots where the shaper lives haha. Not a huge fan of the one board quiver thing anyways, 2 board quiver just expands so much the number of spots i can surf comfortably. unless its a a shortboard, as weirdly enough, i find some shortboards way more versatile than midlengths or even longboards (loved my Pyzalien 2). but my style sucks and riding bigger boards (riding a lot of longboards too lately) really improved my flow and style, while also making me more confident in bigger waves. Trying to be proactive to not get stuck in intermediate hell haha cool footage btw, some of the spots you surf look like a lot of fun ! Also glad you're making your way back to surf after injury

I should make a video on my current quiver haha, definitely the Sunday, tbh I had the wrong board for this session the forecast had me thinking it was gonna be way bigger. The Sunday is much wider 7’0 x 21 1/2” x 3 1/8” compared to the Townsend 6’8 x 19 3/4” x 2 5/8” and the outline for the Townsend is wide point forward with a very pulled in foiled out tail so the Sunday for sure!
